This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Blood & Bone?

Some of you may have seen that there's a new banner up as of today, for a Blood & Bone RPG.  Have any of you played this? What's its deal?  From what I read, it uses some kind of "light D20 system" but it's unclear if by that they mean D&D, D20 3.x style, the OSR, or something completely different?

In terms of the setting, one quote (not sure if it was from a review or not) claims it's "D&D meets Game of Thrones".  Which I'm quite curious about given that it's Dark Albion that's "D&D meets Game of Thrones"!
So I wonder how similar they are (though B&B appears to be ahistorical).

It's definitely not directly compatible with any version of d20 from 0-5.
There are no professions or classes, just a system of traits.
There are no HPs, there is a wounds system.
It claims compatibility with OGL, Pathfinder and 5e, but that would be fairly loose I would think.

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Just looks like yet another generic fantasy setting with skill-based progression called traits. The artwork looks good, though I know that is subjective. I'm not surprised that anyone would invoke Game of Thrones to market their game. Baffled as I am by the success of the books and TV show (again, art being subjective) it is a bona fide mainstream hit that is easy to glom on to.

Sounds interesting.... I saw it on Drivethru and I would have taken a punt on it (sorry, I'm not trying to nag about prices here), but at 17e for a 100-page pdf I decided not to bother. If it turns out to be 'amazing' I might reconsider at some point.

That's a bit odd. Do you mean that literally?

Well, yes, although today I saw Dark Albion as the banner ad. Maybe it's just the timing of when I look.

Edit: And then it changed to Arrows of Indra and then Blood and Bone after that. But for a while all I ever saw was Exiled in Eris.

Indeed, Exiled was there for ages... But I've seen Dark Albion (which I bought - Sweet!) and now Blood & Bone. Actually, now it's Bloodshadows!

If I was the designer, I would try to bury this interview. Dude sounds like a tool. Half the time he's just bashing D&D.

Well, that's what Ken St. Andre basically does in every interview and some people basically worship him

the difference is that Ken has established himself, where as this other guy has not.

i am biased but what T&T has is that it came at a time when the hobby was not inundated with all kinds of special snowflake FRPGs claiming to do something oh so special. this guy's just the latest in a long string of designers just like him. he should be kissing d&d's ring and saying 'godfather'.

seriously, fuck this guy.

I think it's really easy to criticise anything that has come before without the benefit of hindsight. These guys were pioneers! So there was no reference...

He seemed to spend most of the interview going on about how awesome it is that he's using the alternative Proficiency Die rule from the 5e DMG.
