This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Jerry Lewis movie?

Quote from: Dumarest;974486...Not to mention the clumsy attempts at femmes fatale with idiotic names they seem think are Fleming- style...

To be fair was the most infamous example, Pussy Galore in Goldfinger, not taken from the novel? I really liked the novel Casino Royale but the novels themselves do seem to trend towards self-parody as they progress.

No, different movie. Chow's film is a romantic comedy.

And I think you mean the Scorsese movie don't you? ;)

I don't think so. Have you read them all in sequence? If anything, Casino Royale is among the worst, I'd say.

Well, I was taking the notorious ego of Jerry Lewis into account.

No I like to approach books at random as I tend to detest series and want to work against them out of stubborness. I found CR the most grim so far, no Pussy Galores winking at me.

I have to admit a great love for The Nutty Professor.

Quote from: Voros;974762I have to admit a great love for The Nutty Professor.

The Nostalgia Critic did a great New Vs Old on the Nutty Professor (that's the cool dude/wimpy-geek one, not the Flubber, right? I'm sure it is...) that captures a great deal of fine details.  Oddly, I haven't seen either the classic Lewis version or the 'new' Murphy vehicle, so I don't personally have an opinion either way.

The NC episode sided with Murphy's film, based on Murphy essentially out acting Lewis as both the suave dude (Lewis's cool version was apparently quite weak as a character) and matching him as the nerdy scientist.  My take, from the NC video, is that the classic is probably the better film in how it handles the characters (as opposed to the acting), with Lewis's suave self never walking onto the set, he always just appears when the camera pans over, etc, and other little fillips that indicate the thought and care put into the film.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I think you're confusing the film with the book when it comes to Goldfinger.

Voros

Haven't read Goldfinger yet actually but is the woman's name not Pussy Galore in the book?

Murphy's film is obsessed with the anus and farting. The Freudianism is shockingly obvious.

Yeah, that's a far too common trait in modern Comedies. I can appreciate a decent fart joke, but with the glut of fart jokes all over the place I probably wouldn't notice if it was good or bad as the mere presence is enough to turn me off the comedy. I don't even try to watch american comedy films anymore just for that reason.

It is but her character is not at all as in the movie.

Not hard to do since in the movie her character can be broken down to tough lesbian with a chip on her shoulder that finds real happiness after getting three and one half inch of Sean Connery.

Those early movies have some issues.
