This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Shemek hiTankolel;967576I haven't communicated with Howard in some time. I need get some Ssu, and I'd like to know if he can steer me in the right direction, or perhaps he has some for sale.

Oh, you should! He's got all sorts of great stuff, and not all of it is on the catalog. I have lots of Ssu, myself, and feel that one never has enough. His Hlutrgu are a treat - the little coracles are simply too funny for words, unless one happens to be in a ship on their coast...

(Yes; been there, done that, soiled me kilt, changed me armor.)

You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

Quote from: chirine ba kal;967587Be fair; it's a huge line, and unless you're a sad, pathetic old man like me who looks in at the lines on sale at his FLGS on a weekly basis you could very well miss something. I like to look at miniatures, so I check the shop walls and peruse the Internet in search of ideas. I think I have links to some of these good folks on my blog, as well as photos of the miniatures when I can remember to take them... :)

Chirine's ability to spot useful things is exceeded only by his extreme patience in sifting through remainder bins.  I'm convinced in a previous life he struck it rich panning for gold.

Quote from: altfritz;967504Personally, I treat Feshenga as crocodiles. IIRC the rules state they attack on sight, but to me that is a very simplistic, even juvenile, way of running things. In MY TEKUMEL they swim about just like Nile crocodiles or Australian Salties do in the present day. They like to lie on the banks of the rivers and soak up the sun, the lazy beasts!

I can go with that. Nice image. Of course, your Tekumel, like mine or anybody else's, IS real Tekumel. But also, as it happens, this image from your Tekumel appeals  to me with mine too.

Agreed; and before my last Braunstein, "Saving Serqu's Sisters", that nice Mr. Fielding sent along an extra-large helping of them, just to make my players feel *special*.

Mayhem ensued. As you might expect.

I think that this is pretty accurate, myself. Patience, and a clear vision of what one wants to accomplish, is what does it; when I go into some fine retail establishment, I look for things that will be useful. Grocery store: bamboo barbeque skewers, oars for ships and all sorts of timbers and poles; New Age gift shop: very nice large resin Sphinx for the table top; Big Box DIY store: cheap paint, and even cheaper canvas drop cloths for scenery; Dollar store: bag of nasty plastic monsters, ala Dave Arneson; Surplus store: plastic table tents for PC sheets, not to mention two complete Skyline trade show booth sets; FLGS deep discount bin, for figures that have been sitting on the shelf for literally years: Pharoah and his mighty army, and some opponents for same. ("Phil-ho-tep! Phil-ho-tep! Ya, Ya, Philhotep!" We'll see if anybody gets that joke...)

I don't think I pay full retail for anything, by careful shopping, and I seem to do pretty well - to the point where a Big Name Collector asked me how I can afford all this stuff. Answer: A lot of time and patience. And thinking outside the box, which I seem to do pretty well.

I still don't get the 'Real Tekumel' thing; all of the stuff that's been posted here by all of you is well within the lines of what Phil did in his games, and Gronana and I have the scars to prove it. Tekumel is where we play and have fun - Phil had a pretty wide view of how the place ran, and you bet he'd he'd have his Feshenga sunning themselves on the banks of the Missuma. Just 'cause it's in a D&D retro-clone written in 1974 and heavily modified by Gygax and Arneson to suit their vision of what 'gamers' were like and how they played doesn't mean that Phil did it that way in his basement.

End of rant; no offense intended, to anyone.

By way of apology - I'm off for my meds and to bed; it's been a long, hot day - I offer yet another day at the office for the Glorious General and Chirine:

Okay, if Phil saw that he would plotz.  That is a GREAT look at Tekumel.

Damn Hlyss.

Quote from: chirine ba kal;967586Howard Fielding's Tekumel Project 'Tinaliya'. :)

Resin and metal castings, with various poses for the arms, and just too much fun to pass up. I don't know if he's got them in his catalog, yet, so I'd ask... :)

If (when) these were unavailable, what would/did you use? I have been using some ancient citadel amoured halfings, but these are no longer available and I need some more Tiniliya miniatures or proxies for an upcoming game.

I will be firing off an email to Howard soon, as it seems that he may have some items available which I didn't know even existed.
Don\'t part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.

None taken here, that's for sure.

First, the little Tinaliya that Kathy did for me many years ago, then dice / tokens / etc.; I think Amanda Dee did some in her line of Tekumel car standees but I don't know if they still offer these. Beyond that, any short little guys, as long as you know what they are.

Thanks! It was a long hot day, and I was exhausted from getting the air conditioner into the home office window. All of the boxes and bins that had had to come out of the spare room to make a room for Fifth Daughter had to be moved out of the way.

All three sisters will be in town next month, for Third Daughter's wedding, and I may actually have four of the five (2, 3, 4, and 5) all in one place at the same time; mayhem will, I suspect, ensue as those girls have a knack for creating excitement...
