This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: CRKrueger;965258Southern Comfort, the movie with Powers Boothe, but the Cajuns are Halflings.

That would be awesome!  Halfling gangs are the best.

Another appropriate movie plot that works as a scenario here is Avenging Force . People in the region have been abducted during the night and never heard from again. The people have been the targets of a small group of minor nobles and/or rich merchants. They release their captives into the swamp and hunt them for sport. The participants are masked to maintain their upstanding places in society. Will the PCs unmask these villains pretending to be model citizens or become victims of their twisted game?

Cross the streams!  The masked nobles were hunting people in the forest, but due to increased scrutiny/someone almost getting away/whatever, they decide to move the next hunt to the swamp.  There, the PCs have to deal with the hunting nobles, and the Cajun Halflings who are hunting them all. :D

Add in some Predator... the PCs find a group of the nobles skinned and hanging, dressed like deer.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

And then make sure the muck pond is somewhere in there, as well.:-) Yeah, this place is REALLY fucked up.

Now the fun part, this place is SO fucked up, there's got to be some reason/cause.  What's the rotten canker at the heart of this blighted, diseased place?

Um...the gigantic, sentient lotus blossom, mutated by the energies from the crashed "prey" ship that was on autopilot toward "huntworld" before the ion storm hit it? The one that crashed decades ago, but now, all the dangerous prey that were in stasis are spilling out of the cargo hold, under sway of the sentient lotus? Who has assassin vine minions and other crazy shit working for her? And she's about to spawn? Or something?

Or a lich. Search me, man.:-)

Actually, my first inclination is to think that this place is just fucked up, because it's a shithole place to live. But, owing to the fact that the player characters have some sort of stake in it, then "it's OUR fucked up! An' yew ain't welcome!"

Just need to establish what tha stake is.

Maybe something primordial/cthonic.
If it was Scarred Lands, I'd say a piece of Mormo, or if it was Shadows of the Demon Lord, it would be the place where it  all starts.

Maybe deep in the swamp lies the Womb of the Earthmother, which is actually some dimensional portal/rift that Shub-Niggurath is using to enter the world.

Or maybe it's a literal womb, a Cthonic entity coming up through the earth into an underwater cave system deep in the swamp.

If the setting has a Yin/Yang analogue maybe it's a concentration of pure Yin, if a swamp, or pure Yang, if a jungle.  Maybe not a Lich, but a Taoist sorcerer who's attained immortality but as a result unbalances the Chi of the land.

An alien lifeform, which exists as a communal mind of parasites that infects and warps flora and fauna to kill or infect outsiders to protect itself.  Could also be a Wizard experiment or God curse run amok.

At the heart of the swamp lies a malign presence. Perhaps the hateful soul of a once caring druid who was turned twisted and evil long ago. Now it lives within the swamp without physical form whispering its evil urgings to those who spend time there. The longer the spirit is listened to, the more one wants to listen and the more corrupted the soul becomes. Perhaps if the spirit can be summoned and defeated, those corrupted under its influence can be saved.

I did something like this in my initial Dungeon World adventure last year.

Entry on the second page describes the Druid.

RPGPundit

Quote from: cranebump;965997"Nudist mutants?" Is nudism a part of the mutation (or rather, "nude-tation" BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!).:-)

There are tons of mutants in the Last Sun setting (whereas humans are an endangered species). Most mutants are just basically humans with a different color and some special features.
Nudist mutants look just like naked humans except for a black bar covering their naughty bits at all times.
