This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Exalted... is it worth it?

Quote from: Dirk Remmecke;940708I'd try Quixalted first. If it works for you - never look back.

But there is no print version (that I know of).

I have to agree that Qwixalted is the only easy way to play Exalted without dropping the system entirely.

Quote from: rway218;940497I looked at the new Exalted stuff on DriveThruRPG, but for the print cost... Does anyone know if the system is worth the investment?

No, it isn't.

I'm not well versed enough to tell at a read but how does it balance out in play?

Are you asking for general observations? Or how it differs from normal Exalted?

General observations from play. Does it feel like Exalted, do the power levels feel about right, etc.

It suffers greatly from the same problem as all the other editions: it is a game of epic heroism written by people who hate heroes and aren't too clear on the concept of epic. Also, the game system starts to break when you go past low- to mid-range superhumans, and the Solar Exalted start at that level and go up fast.

Do you mean the OP or yourself?

Quote from: CRKrueger;940751People still play Exalted?  I thought Godbound put an end to all that nonsense.
Not really, except maybe among OSR fans:).

QuoteBTW, couldn't you just do Exalted with a  skinned FASERIP?  All the setting fluff in the world can't cover a Supers game, and that's all it ever really was.
You could, but losing Karma for killing an Immaculate monk would suck;)!

This is, by a wide margin, the most succinct and well-aimed critique of Exalted I have ever read. Bravo.

Pretty much what I've been saying, except much more succinct and yet clearer than I can ever put it. Thank you, sir.

It feels like Exalted, though we don't sweat the details. The power tiers are there and the same but the gap is less wide. It is also impacted on by an Exalted's experience and even story position. This is a feature in our experience.

We really enjoy the transparent nature of antagonist creation in Godbound, where you decide on how hard a challenge an opponent should be and being able to work back from their to fit the NPC into the world/narrative. Exalted's adherence to building NPCs as PCs where the PC rules are so complex was a real killer.

I wish more people on RPG forums acknowledged this fact:D!

Including you? :D

But more seriously, its generally better to assume an invisible IMO on internet  post without some reason to think otherwise. It can be very hard to do in the heat of the moment or about something one is passionate about.

If you don't have a handle on the setting and want to play in Creation buy the First and Second Edition books you think you need, then switch to Godbound. I've abandoned Exalted as published for Godbound with Creation as the setting. It's super easy. You may have to fudge a few things or develop your own mechanics for things like Demesnes and Manses but you can gloss over a lot. The Influence and Effort systems can really help out with the feel of not having enough 'charms'.

First off, thanks. I was worried the power gap might be even narrower. That would be a big issue for our group.

That's what allot of people have been saying. Its enough to make me regret having so many issues with the base system since it does seem to be one of the better adaptations.
