This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Bobpool

Hey everyone. I'm Bobpool and I have been lurking on and off for about half a year now.

I'm a pretty big fan of old World of Darkness, D&D 3rd edition, and Final Fantasy.

I have been playing RPGs since college for the past 10 years and have really stalled in creating a game out of fear. I found some free time and thought if not now when? I have a couple ideas but some of my cubicle friends thought it would make more sense to create a survey first to make sure I'm really not wasting time making something no one would look at.

I have this idea for a time traveling, dimension hopping game with its roots in the Matrix, The One, and Dr. Who but I want to get pretty specific with it and make sure I'm not just making another run of the mill D20 game.

I'm hoping to develop a game with a community in mind instead of just a vanity project. So if anyone would be willing to take a quick survey I would really appreciate it.

Just follow the link: Click Here For Survey!

Also I included a random chance to win a $100 Amazon giftcard until 6/22/13 if you are in the US.

Thanks!

Bobpool

Sheepcon

This year is the maiden voyage of Sheepcon: a Melbourne based table-top gaming convention put together by four friends who ended up way over their heads (and love it). Our first year is going to be jam-packed full of gaming with some light entertainment and a few other little bits and bobs to make a really enjoyable day for everyone. We have a an amazing venue in Kensington which will have themed rooms for games.
Over at Sheepcon we like to discover and we want you to discover as well. Thats why we urged our Gms to run something new and exciting for our players. To brush of the old or the not yet appreciated before slamming it down on our tables. Hopefully when you leave Sheepcon you will have played something you otherwise wouldn't have and had a ball doing it.

For more information head over to the Sheepcon website (//www.sheepcon.com) or our facebook page. We would love to hear from you and we would love to see you at Sheepcon 2013.

London Darkness Roleplaying Club (previously known as London NWOD) is back!

LDRC's next session will be held on the 26/05/2014, between 13:00 GMT +0:00 (1PM in the UK) to 16:00 GMT +0:00 (4PM in the UK). LDRC is based at The Pirate Castle, which is located in Camden Town in North-West London.

If you are interested in attending, email us as soon as possible at london.nwod@gmail.com with the date you can attend in the body. Directions and other details will be provided once your email has been received. We welcome experienced gamers and new players alike! Players MUST be 18+ (safety and security reasons). Our club plays any and all official New World of Darkness templates currently available (e.g. Vampire, Werewolf, Mage), as well as recently released and future templates (e.g. Mummy, Demon). We will be running a Mage The Awakening game on one table and another game (TBD) on another table.

A £4 contribution towards the club fund (we are a not-for-profit club and your contribution helps with the running costs each session) for the venue is required which you can -- and must -- pay on the date of the session. All contributions are collected at the start of the session (or on your arrival if for any reason you are late) and are then deposited at the venue directly at the end of the session.

If you know anyone at all who would also be interested in joining this group, you are welcome to bring them along to the session (provided they also contribute £4 on the day). If you are bringing someone along, please can you provide us with their contact details -- with their permission, of course.

We are looking to bring on one additional Gamemaster for the sessions going forward. This role will be a voluntary, "full-time" (i.e. weekly) position. Further details will be provided to applicants (incl. responsibilities, scheduling, potential compensation, game content and so on).

If you are interested in becoming an LDRC sanctioned Gamemaster, please send your application via a seperate email at london.nwod@gmail.com and include in the email body your first and last name, age, your availability on Sundays, your experience with World of Darkness (both New and Old), your experience as a GM (World of Darkness preferred but not essential) and what you feel are your qualities and limits are as GM. Once this email has been received, your information will be filed for reference* and you will be informed in due time if your application will be advanced to the next stage.

That's it for now. We look forward to seeing you at our next session!

My name is Nicholas, and I am an artist who works in Japanese hand papermaking and bookbinding. I am currently working with two other artists to create comprehensive, illustrative maps of Edo period Japan (~1603-1868). This project is called A Land of Narrow Paths. We are archival giclee printing these maps on washi (Japanese paper), and creating an accompanying booklet that details the time period. The map essentially comes in two versions: 1) Historical, or 2) Folkloric, where we add yokai to your map (the yokai are drawn with sumi by hand, and then scanned). There are also two sizes for each map: a smaller, more affordable size, and then the full size map (26"x38").

Here is our Kickstarter page.

Our project is all about merging traditional and digital art processes (hand papermaking, woodblock printing, sumi drawing, sumi calligraphy, and digital formatting), as well as getting people interested in the time period. We're raising money to finish hand calligraphy (all labels are done by hand with sumi ink), finish folkloric illustrations, and make editions of our prints. To make the project accessible, we also have a $10 backing option, which includes a PDF of the booklet and full resolution digital files of both maps.

While this is an art project, we come from tabletop gaming backgrounds and believe that our offerings would also make great Japan-themed roleplaying game supplements. For example, the PDF could be used as a setting guide for games set in the Edo period, and the monster cards (see below) could be used as Japanese yokai visuals.

At this time, we are at almost 300% of our funding goal. However, the more we raise, the more content we provide. For example, now that we have passed the $5,000 mark, we are now offering backers of every level ($10 and up) a complimentary set of digital print-and-play files of an obake karuta -- literally "monster cards" -- a game made and played during the Edo period and yet another great supplement for Japan-themed roleplaying games. We are also now offering physical copies of this deck. You can read more about obake karuta here.

Here is a preview of the pre-labeled map. The final map will have more locations and will be labeled with sumi calligraphy. The textures you see here are directly from woodblock prints and handmade paper.

Here is a closeup of Mt. Fuji and its surroundings. The final map will have more locations and labels hand-calligraphed with sumi ink.

Here are 3 sample cards of our obake karuta, or "monster cards". These were hand-drawn with sumi (sumi-e) and then scanned. Even the backgrounds are sumi mixed with Japanese watercolor pigments.

As a Player, have you ever wanted to adventure but couldn't find a DM?

As a DM, have you ever had players wanting to keep going, but you didn't have anything prepared?

This is a complete adventure ready to be played through in a single sitting of 2-3 hours. It can be dropped into any campaign, and is designed so it can be played in several different ways;

What it is: This project is a system neutral, solo-play, one-shot, complete adventure module for characters of any level.

What that means:

System Neutral means it is not dependent on any specific rule set or edition, and can therefore be dropped into just about ANY role playing campaign world setting. If your game rules use polyhedral dice, then this will work for you. It was written primarily for the most common traditional fantasy role-playing game settings, but it can be adapted for many other worlds with just a little imagination.

Solo-Play means it can be played by a single person without a DM. It can be played with multiple players with or without a DM as well. It has a flexible design and concept so it can be used in many different ways. Though it was designed to be played by a lone player by themselves, it can be played with a group of players and multiple characters, or even with a DM.

One-Shot means it is able to be completed in a single 2-3 hour sitting. This is also flexible in that you can increase the level of challenge (with more or stronger monsters) to increase the length of play time, or you can decrease the number of challenges to shorten the play session.

Complete Adventure Module means that everything you need to get through this adventure is contained in the PDF, HOWEVER, this is NOT a stand-alone game. SEE ALSO: What it is NOT:

For Characters of Any Level means that this module is scalable. You can increase or decrease the challenge based on the experience level of your character or characters.

What it is NOT: This is NOT a stand-alone Role Playing Game rules set. The rules and mechanics for a Role Playing Game are not part of this. This is just an add-on, like an expansion, for whatever Role Playing Game system you currently use. You will need at least the basic guidebooks for whatever Role Playing System you normally use.

Oh, and did I mention that the basic fully-playable module is a reward for a one dollar pledge?

Thanks. Come check it out.

Hello!

I'm Jeff, from House Rule Gaming.  Our Kickstarter just launched yesterday (August 17th).

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1264560867/house-rule?ref=nav_search

At House Rule, we're looking to create an inclusive and accessible role-playing community.  We're creating a place where you can find players and games, build campaigns, and play them.  Our campaign tools include a blog, wiki, and other game materials.  We support Face-To-Face play by providing a place to chat and work on the campaign between sessions.  If you play online, you can jump right into our own virtual tabletop and have all your wiki articles and game materials at your fingertips!

We're currently in closed alpha, and we're working towards entering a beta phase.  The Kickstarter is to improve our servers so we can start getting more and more people involved!

We'd appreciate any time you have to take a look, and if you like what you see, tell a friend!

We'll also be running a 24-hour game-a-thon this weekend Friday (August 19th) at 7PM Pacific.  We'll be using our own tools and streaming it on Twitch.tv.  We'll be happy to field any questions you might have!
