This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Well, there's not much that can be done about cake, but I think I've found a way to make sad bear happy.

Quote from: JesterRaiin;893239I mean, this calls for a specific breed of players - people who are vocal and passionate about, ummmm, the shell, as much as they are about the core (the gaming process) itself.

It's got that hybrid feel and you'd need very engaged players who can work well / compromise together - yet still be okay with the GM at the helm for the gameplay which is anti-storygame.

I'd give it a whirl with the right group of trad players.

Quote from: Opaopajr;893275Sounds like the card game War with an array of four stats to boost your drawn card versus the "GM's" card. That with character-driven world creation sounds like an exercise in rampant justfication and tedium. Pass.

You nailed it. The mechanics are War. I am unsure if that's a bad thing though. Its as simple as a mechanic as it gets. Perhaps too simple?

Whoa! You think it's possible to convince traditional gamers to play Unbound?

What argument would you use to attract their attention? Unless, of course, you have at your disposal a band of faithful companions who don't mind trying new things (in which case I envy you more than you think).

I got them to play 4e! :)

Which is only partially a joke. If you read the actual play, it appears Unbound uses 4e skill challenge mechanic.

Unless I read Unbound, I can't really tell what's the ratio of Trad vs. Shitshow in the game. Right now, I think its a hybrid, but I may be very wrong.

Of course, in my hands, it may become more Trad by the nature of how I run games.

I have a local reputation as a GM so friends will bring their friends when I announce something because whatever I run will probably be fun.

So if I got the game, read it and was still enthused, the argument would be - let's try this new cooperative creation RPG for a handful of sessions. It's gonna be pulp, its about cool heroes doing cool stunts and its going to involve more player input than my other games.

Based on that, half of my regulars may be okay with it, in a WTF, let's try it kinda of way like going to an Vegan BBQ.

Unbound: the Vegan BBQ RPG!

:hatsoff:

Sir, have you ever considered a career in marketing, advertising... Or at least diplomacy and foreign politics? We seem to have a problem with certain Middle Eastern conflict and we could use help... ;)

Campaign's title: A Cat, a Spinach and an Unbound. :D

Jokes aside, I'm not sure whether you counted on that, but I find it quite intriguing and worthy of further analysis: whether running certain games determines GMs' style and their mindset, to what extent, and how hard it is to put it aside and approach new game with fresh mind...

Dammit. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit behavioral psychology... :duh:

Start a new thread about that. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on your hypothesis too.

Meanwhile, I'll be here sniffing glue.
