This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: TonyLBSome women may.  Claiming that all or even most women do is sheer folly.

Every woman I've ever met in a "long term relationship".

Its like Bill Maher said: "I know marriage works for a lot of people; those people are called women".

QuoteAll your strident insistence shows is that you haven't been in a relationship that is about more than this kind of shit.  It doesn't show that they don't exist.

As with many things:  My personal experience flatly contradicts your theory.  You choose to believe that I am either deceiving you or deceiving myself about my personal experience, rather than consider that your theory may be flawed.

I'm willing to concede that there are some women who are willing to be in relationships and not use sex as a currency, and not want to change their partner into something other than what they are.  But those are by far the exception to the very big rule.

Kill the off-topic forum NOW.

At a minimum, disallow rpg.net threads. They bring out the worst in people. A site built on hatred for another site and a love for trainwrecks is merely reactive, i.e. weak.

Quote from: AnemoneWow.  It's like watching a freak show.  I thought those were illegal in most countries, nowadays.

Yeah, but there aren't enough midgets with flippers to make it really work. I mean, there's one or two. Just...not enough.

Plenty of beards, tho', so that's cool. Are there any ponytails? Particularly ones on balding men? With beards? Enquiring minds need to know.

QuoteIt's not as if roleplaying games have a reputation as attracting a "no girls allowed", vicariously slaughter-happy, socially awkward demographic.

They have?

Quote from: WerekoalaCould it be equally said that most men give women anything they want in hopes of getting sex? That's a bit cynical as well, but as a guy, I can say there's more than a bit of truth in it. The only distinction is that the woman is the one with the final say, usually.

Using people goes both ways, most of the time.

Yes, that is absolutely true. The only reason men don't use sex to get what they want is because sex IS what they want. And usually, like addleminded addicts, they're willing to go through all kinds of abject humiliations if they think they can get it.

I will close for the day with this quote, again from the memorable and brilliant Bill Maher:

"I always compare marriage to communism. They're both institutions that don't conform to human nature, so you're going to end up with lying and hypocrisy."

Wow. I don't think the thread could get more crapulent nor even using a shower of shit.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

So you think that everyone who is posting here saying that their lovers and wives are good, decent, honest, sexy partners is just freakishly lucky ... or else they're deluding themselves.

Let me float an opposing theory:  You've had shit-poor luck with women, possibly because of the way you behave, and it's made you crazy bitter.

It's observer bias either way ... we believe that the world is as we've seen it, but the world we see is the one we have formed around us by attracting some people and repelling others.  The difference is that the world I am living in is populated with caring, decent, sincere people, whereas the world you are living in is, by your accounts ... not.

Do you really want to fight for your right to believe that everybody is as bad as the assholes you seem to surround yourself with?

Quote from: RPGPunditThere's a cue right there, that you're an idiot. Do you have something constructive to say, or are you just here to spew bile and accusations?

Great. You're talking to yourself now...

Quote from: RPGPunditIf me saying something as universally well-known but universally hushed-up in our society as "many women use sex to get what they want from men", and that makes me enough of a monster that you're uncomfortable being around me, just fuck off. You won't do well here.

Newsflash: It might be "universally hushed-up" if the universe was made up of foul-mouthed, pipe-stinking nuts. Fortunately, this isn't the case.

I'm comfortable enough to talk games with you. I don't feel I have to agree with you on everything, though.

And I don't think of you as a monster. You're not scary.

You're just creepy.

My thoughts exactly - or QFT as they say in these here parts – except I won't go into the whys – Internet Psychobabble and all.

I mean, c'mon Pundit - if we're married we're lying or deluding ourselves? Substitute a few words here and there, and you're Ron Edwards on Gaming.

Quote from: RPGPunditEvery woman I've ever met in a "long term relationship".
Perhaps, for whatever reason, the people with whom you game..ahem...I mean the women with whom you deal have not been good experiences. But from there, to make the leap that:

Quote from: RPGPunditWomen use sex to get what they want from men.
is ludicrous. It's as bad as someone extrapolating some wildly intricate theories about how people game based on his bad experiences in RPGs.

You tried to backpedal to this:
Quote from: RPGPunditIf me saying something as universally well-known but universally hushed-up in our society as "many women use sex to get what they want from men"
and finally this:
Quote from: RPGPunditI'm willing to concede that there are some women who are willing to be in relationships and not use sex as a currency, and not want to change their partner into something other than what they are.

The problem is, your admissions and such are as hollow when, say, a professor says something like "Hey, I'm not saying people playing other ways can't be having fun." And then proceeds to explain why people playing other ways can't be having fun...

And in all honesty, it is at the very least as insulting as the idiot trying to tell me the One True Way of gaming.
