This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Thanks. I think it's a good mix between noir and horror.

I have an issue.  Where's the mystical aspect?  Because it looks like a basic Noire styled game.

Well, there's lots of Unnatural creatures walking around side by side with Humans, like shapeshifters, undead, demons, and odd alchemical breeds. Just about everyone knows some form of magic. There's a Godwar taking place, although it is more of a behind the scenes sort of thing. Most people dare not travel outside of a city, because that's where the real nasty beasties are. Is that what you're asking about?

EDIT: And you can play a wide variety of Unnaturals too.

And the back cover doesn't even show that.  I think it needed something more.

I love the artwork, but agree that it could use a little more supernatural twist to it. (The text certainly brings that element in, but the artwork doesn't have it.) If the front side artwork has some supernatural stuff in it then this should be great for the back side. :D

I hear you, but it is extremely hard to do supernatural, especially when you need to overlay text. I'm still waiting for the front - it should have a subtle form of supernatural, but work. We'll see.

What I meant was, on a cursory look, which is what most perspective buyers tend to do, that image says nothing about what's really in the book.

Noted. Thanks.

Although, if the cover is a better representative, then I'm all for it.  I'll pick up a copy of this book when I can.

I like the back cover and the summaries evoke solid imagery of what to expect in the game. As long as you feature a PI sporting a fedora and trench-coat, you're on the right track. :-)

Cover: It would be cool to see a gated city, with the detective under a magic street lamp talking to a vampire and another "monster" while ghouls sneak up around one corner and a demon rests against the wall of the other corner listening in. :-) The Dick and his clients should be having a casual conversation, with a touch of apprehension (maybe the "other monster" is listening while glancing around).

Quote from: brettmb;830813... I'm working on the Brutes Fantasy RPG with a completely rewritten/reorganized version of MasterBook ...

I'm VERY intrigued to know what you are doing with it. Do you have a quick-start or preview yet?

The front cover is in the works. The sketch was spot on, but the nasties/shadows were not finalized the last time I saw it. The three characters should be great. Hope to have it soon.

For Brutes MasterBook, just some basics:

You can also check out the MasterBook EZ Prototype Rules (while this is a simpler version, it does have a few new changes to the success and combat tables):
