This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Exploderwizard;779015Its not a problem. After all anyone can find out the properties of any magic item just by spending an hour whispering sweet nothings to it.

Some potions like to be talked dirty to...

Quote from: Blacky the Blackball;778996I note with interest that potions now seem to be identifiable by their look and behaviour. The invisibility potion is invisible. The potion of vitality has a heartbeat, and the potion of flying is lighter than air and has clouds in it...

That is very cool.

Ok, I may be really dense here, but...

I downloaded the PDF (the first one listed) and I don't see any monsters, potions, etc. on the first look-through.  How did I miss them?  My version is listed as 0.2.

Edit: Oh, dear, nevermind me.  I was being really dense.  I just saw V2 with V1 below it and thought "hey, I've already got V1" and ignored that it was the DM basic rules. =)

Quote from: Sacrosanct;778974yep, that's the supplement with the other dragons.

And Marlycat?  guess what?

If you roll for starting hp, a cat can still kill a wizard in one round (if you roll a 1) :)

*steeples her fingers*  EXCELLENT.:)
Don\'t mess with cats we kill wizards in one blow.;)

Thank God I wasn't the only person to do that!

Where there enough changes between the Player's Guide v1 and v2 to make it worth reprinting?

Blacky the Blackball

Annoyingly I'm unable to find a list of changes; so other than the obvious (the appendices attached to the end) it's not that clear what's changed and what hasn't without going through it with a fine-tooth comb.

Probably not, no. They added a couple of spells, the Noble Background, a rules clarification about recovering Hit Dice at level one and some stuff on the Forgotten Realms Gods and Factions. Most of the other changes were to formatting.

...Spectators, really, of all things?

To be honest if I were them I'd probably have used pretty much verbatim the B/X list with one or two tweaks (Less devil swine, more beholders).

Still, this is an interesting starter list. That red dragon is officially the shit as far as I'm concerned.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!  WOHO! WOHAHAHAHA! WAHAHA...oh, wait, that wasn't funny...(ahem)...true....I shouldn't be upset about there being but two dragons in the monster section. Then again, maybe I'd know there were two, if, oh, I dunno they FILED THEM UNDER "D?" You now..."D?"...for Dragon? (really, guys? "Y" is for "Dragon?").

Thank goodness, some good news today.

Sacrosanct

Yeah, I don't get how they organized the monsters either.  Pretty stupid actually.  I don't want to flip through the entire monster manual just to look up different ages of dragons.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.
