Been toying with the idea of setting up a wiki for my next campaign.

I have seen a few people post they do similar.

So what is the cheapest, easiest way to go about this?

Obsidian Portal - https://www.obsidianportal.com - is free (at least for the basic features) and is specifically set up for RPG campaign wikis. I used it for the last campaign I ran and found it pretty easy to get along with, would use again.

I use RPGnet's wiki; costs nothing.
Currently running: Tyche\'s Favourites, a historical ACKS campaign set around Massalia in 300BC.

I do it with my forum now, though I could get wiki software fairly easily. I did have some Obsidian Portal games, but their wiki's were killed in the software change, as well as other things, like losing threads in the forums and comments on the log posts, so I quit there.

Well after reading up on it, especially with reference to the stuff Arminius linked, I have decided to try Wikidot - seems pretty easy to set up so far.

Another vote for Obsidian Portal. Easy to use and free version is likely all you'll ever need (if you're as uncreative as me, anyway).:-) Main thing I do is log the adventures. I'm one behind at the moment. I can't seem to get players to update, save one, who shares bulk of GM'ing with me. To wit:

For Obsidian Portal, you will want to make sure it works with the browser you are using. The 'upgraded' OP does not work with Internet Explorer 9.

I really like TiddlyWiki, but it's not server side unless you download and install one of the variants. On the other hand, it's trivial to copy and paste a single file.

There's the classic tiddlywiki and the newer, more fancy one. I'm used to the older version, but that's because I've been using it for years.

There's also an iOS version called TWEdit, so you can use your ipad or phone (although without a keyboard editing a wiki is a pain in the ass).
