This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I have my theoretical reservations on some 5e stuff. But actual play matters. So I shall put up and learn from GM experience. More details posted in PbP Forum.

Campaign Style - Open Table

Character Generation - 4d6 drop lowest, or Standard Set

Location - Time, Place, and Scope
Summer at a Silver Mine Boomtown on the Rain Shadow of a Mountain Range.

Start
Premise: Come make your fortune.
Meet Area: Saloon. Bulletin Board.
Quests: Bounty - Claim Jumper, Bounty - Mayor Robbed, Investigate - Spooky Mine Shaft, Investigate - Unsettled Graveyard.

I want this to be faster paced so as to see the meat of the rules in action. So I apologize in advance for less faffing on my part than normal. I shall also try REALLY HARD not to ThaumaDigiFap.

Any setting/ruling questions, ideas, etc. please post here. Let's reserve PbP OOC topic for CharGen and Crunch posts. I want to get to IC Topic ASAP. Thanks.
Just make your fuckin\' guy and roll the dice, you pricks. Focus on what\'s interesting, not what gives you the biggest randomly generated virtual penis.  -- J Arcane

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

I might play, if you'll have me.

CharGen info and crunch questions are in theRPGSite PbP Forum. There is only one non-RAW rule, a d% for races allowed. I already set up a Dice Room at Rolz website, which is also posted in the PbP topic.

Durn, I invite you to repost your character on the PbP topic, so as you can edit it in the future (gear, wealth, items, etc.). I shall post a preferred format example, for my aging eyes.

And course I would have you all. :)

IC topic is coming up. Whipping up the prime Saloon/City Hall/Courthouse, yes the hamlet is nascent and busy. Alternate saloons coming soon.

Any setting questions?

The overall feel of this is very... Western-y. How much should we be playing that up?

I like the Western feel as it is one of the few historical times where egalitarian cosmopolitanism was an accepted standard out of sheer logistic necessity. It still is medieval D&D, as there is no gunpowder. But feel free to run with Western ideas, avoiding the most egregious anachronisms (gun powder, steam punk, etc.).

Cultural names, I'd say Western Europe and Western Native Americans in a blender. Dwarves use variations on rock and mineral names. Halflings use florid names, but let's keep them down to First Middle Last at most. Elves mostly Native American & fae, but they are quite rare by demographics.

Library Lass, I need you and any others interested to get your PC turned in by tomorrow. Otherwise you all will be the first newcomers for the next batch of open table players. The table will remain open, so you can still play, there will be just a bookkeeping change:

Any new batch of players after tomorrow's cut off will get a new ver. 2.0 topic so as to keep things clean. Hopefully it will help us all process groups in smaller chunks. This would also likely carry over to IC parties, but you'll be free to associate and switch (but let's cross that road when we come to it).
