This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone familiar with this? I haven't heard anything about it whatsoever.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Silverlion

Playing in a game of it online right now. Its 1930's Pulp Space Opera. Its pretty simple system (Vortex*, same one used in the recent Dr. Who game.)

Wonderfully well represented. I need to preorder me a print copy, but alas, I didn't have the funds this month.

*The Vortex system uses 2d6+stat+skill vs target number. It has advantages/disadvantages, and story points which impact play. Very similar in fact to Cinematic Unisystem, but with 2d6 rather than 1d10) and some powers/abilities need story points to power them. Also certain gear is effective enough to have their own story points for certain actions.

A lot like some Traveller systems...

I bought it a couple weeks ago. Found the system to be disappointing. Not my cup of tea.

I'll sell you mine. I've been considering tossing it in a box and shipping it off to Noble Knight.

Soylent Green

I'm very tempted by Rocket Age. I've been playing Dr Who and I kind of like the system. Cinematic Unisystem is a good comparison.

The trouble for me is I have already got space opera pretty well covered in my collection. They don't get enough play as it is and it makes me a little when I  get games and they just sit there gathering dust.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

What sorts of things does it do to evoke the setting/genre? Does it have much of a setting or guidelines for capturing the feel of the old serials/pulps/comics?
I doubt I'd play it but I'll happily buy something that has ideas to mine/steal/inspire.

I own the Primeval RPG, which runs on the same system. I like the system well enough, but I'm not entirely convinced that the setting of Rocket Age is what I'm looking for. I'd prefer more of a 1950s retro vibe and less 1930s pulp.
It\'s not Its

So...basically, you can use it as Flash Gordon: the RPG?

Because that sounds plenty awesome. I like the old 30s-40s Flash newspaper comics A LOT, in particular. Not sure lots of people I know would want to play something like "oh, you got the Evil Dude's army on your tail again...you meet this queen chick wich you just saved from some purple-furred cavepeople, she seems nice but oh wait she's compulsive-obsessive and wants you to stay with her forever...oh well it's all a moot point because a giant monster just appeared and wants to eat everyone" but I'd kinda love to. :D A Flash Gordon style sandbox/hexcrawl with a really high "make it up as you go along" vibe would rock...

edit to add:
In a more serious/slightly less pulpy (still pulpy!!!) vein, I suppose it could be used for stuff like Northwest Smith, say?

No Idea, I'm playing in the game and don't yet own a copy.

Ent:

Yeah, I'm thinking Northwest Smith is plausible. Mind you it feels a little pulpier than that. (Smith is an influence on my space opera game, for sure--along with a billion others, when I finish it some day..)

Yep, Cubicle 7's Rocket Age. Received it about a week and a half ago.

I could not GM this game w/o having Shatner's Rocketman on a constant loop.

And no one wants that.

Hello! Rocket Age is indeed in stores in the US, and will very shortly be hitting the shelves of UK/European games shops too.

There's a free adventure for Rocket Age here if you want to take a look:

Awesome. If you want to sell let me know. I was looking at it and Qin (when the package was up) but didn't have the funds just then for the whole mess.
