This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Just a heads up, but the kickstarter for Tunnels & Trolls Deluxe has begun.

I'm on the fence about this.  My favorite edition is 5th (or 5.5 I suppose), didn't care for 7th, but they seem to have everyone on board that made 5th so great.

I remember Tunnels and Trolls from a bazillion years ago.

It had a spell called "Take that you fiend!"

Wonder if that will make it into the deluxe version?

I'd guarantee it, watch him say the spell's name in the video.  There's joy there:)

It's a blessing and a curse for T&T.  The light hearted attitude and wonkiness has a charm to it.  It's also off-putting at times.  Every so often I'll hear people wondering why it's not as popular as they think it should be and all I can think of is "Haven't you read the book?"

Wow! I have not watched the video yet! That spell must be well loved.

Bill,

If you forward to the 3:50 mark, you'll understand that TTYF! will be there:)

Ah hell, I pledged for the hardcover.

BloodyCactus

See, I got a kick out of T&T and would like to see the new edition. I'd like to read reviews first, before making a purchase, though; how else do I know whether I might like a new edition better than the 5.? version I already own?

And am I the only one who thinks $28 is a little steep for a softcover book? And that $60 is a little steep for a hardcover book? Maybe that's why I buy so few gaming books these days.

Don't get me wrong, I see they've made their goal and I'm tempted to participate. I just get put off by the prices. I may end up springing for the softcover, or I may end up waiting for reviews.

YourSwordisMine

in my 30 years of gaming, I have never owned a T&T product or ever read or played. This, along with Glorantha were one of those systems/settings that I always heard about but never got to experience.

I am glad this Kickstarter came along, I am a most expectant Backer for the Hardback.

And only an additional $8 for a color 11"x17" poster map?! FUCK YEAH!

$28 for the softcover plus a pdf isn't bad.  $60 for the hardcover and pdf hurts a bit more.

From what I've gleaned, Rick Loomis of Flying Buffalo is adamant that the latest version be compatible with 5th, so that makes me breath a little easier.

He's still hoping he can get rid of that enormous pile of T&T solos, circa 1981, he's got sitting in his garage :D

Backed this for PDF, and will print/hard back bind it myself. It was the quirky wtf names that put my group off, and BECMI conquered all for years with us, so it never got a look in back in the early to mid eighties. It was off my RPG radar for 20 years or so but I bought the 7th ed box and 7.5 pdf, and already owned 5th (Corgi books, all of 'em but most are just solos) and 5.5.

I think 5.5 is the sweet spot. Be interesting to see if the team behind this engage with the fans or try to make what they think would be the best edition. With who's on board, I *hope* they'll do a decent job.

There probably needs to be a backer level called "Cleanser of the Great Library" where you get lots of back solos as one of the rewards...

Seriously though, I'm glad this is running and have backed it, albeit not for a whole lot (I mainly wanted pdfs - shipping gets expensive). Best of luck to Ken & co.

This looks pretty cool, nice to see they want it to be backwards compatible with older editions. I'm quite looking forward to this.
