This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Are any of you tired of running games?

Admittedly, I've not had much of a break. I've been running Carrion Crown Adventure Path Pathfinder RPG pretty much since 2011. It's almost 2013 and I'm BARELY done with it. I feel...fatigued.

Does this happen to you guys?

(I also think the major reason for this fatigue is due to the fact I had run two groups in the same campaign storyline (sort of) and only ONE has managed to muddle its way towards the end. The other keeps breaking down...and I'm about ready to call it quits. :p )

Okay I really need a nap.

I generally GM games the vast majority of the time, however every now and then I NEED a break from GMing and ask whatever my current group is for a break for a bit.
Over the last few years the people I've gamed with have been pretty obliging, so I don't really get the GM fatigue thing.
It's important to know and set your own limits and communicate it to people you game with.

Nope. Two years in and I feel like I'm just getting warmed up.

I can communicate. I just feel like I want it to end! :p

Okay then, how about YOU take over my DM/GM duties for me?

When one of these ends, take up a contrasting system and setting for your other game. You are running a 3rd edition variant.  So, perhaps a light science fiction or modern game, like Traveller or Honor + Intrigue.  These are just Just example systems.  A licensed setting really would place focus in a different way than what you are running now too, like The One Ring or Mongoose's Judge Dredd.  I can not run only one system and setting.  The creative aspect of these games is at variance with running only one campaign all the time.

As in you're sick of GMing or RPGs?
If you're sick of GMing, ask our current group for a LONG break, possibly indefinitely from GMing. You never know there could be someone in the group just waiting for an opportunity to GM for a long stretch.

If you think you're sick of RPGs, just stop gaming for a while and do something else. For me I'm moving to Brisbane, Australia soon.
This means i'tll probably be a while before I can get a gaming group together so I'm gonna do some skydiving for a while until I make some contacts over there. :)

Firstly, I REALLY hate hard SCI Fi RPGs. I mean I can't even get into Star Wars RPG. OF ANY shade. It's just too...bleh. One Ring maybe. But honestly I'd rather try my hand at A Song of Ice and Fire again. But only because there I was a lord and NOT a DM/GM, rules arbiter. :p

Secondly, I don't want to GM ANYTHING for a year. If I play more Pathfinder, that's fine. (I'm wanting to go pirate-ing with Skull and Shackles.)

I'm pretty sure I'm sick of being the voice of reason amongst unreasonable people AND trying to finish up a storyline that has dragged for like...forever. I FULLY expected by this time last year to be done with running. But due to drop outs over the summer and the complete collapse of at least ONE group, I've had...problems.

I'm only sick of GMing, in that I'm tired of being the guy to come up with ALL the challenges, deal with the petty squabbles that come up some times, AND also just being a dick about wanting people to SHOW UP. I drive 20 minutes to gaming, and some times...it never quite feels like it is worth it.

Especially when no one shows up AFTER saying they will.

Then you have answered your own question.  A break it is.  Those were just examples of possible lighter systems of contrasting settings.  Vampire, then.  What I was saying was something in contrast to your campaign and system as you see it.

Yeah but I'm just in the middle of FINISHING for cripes shakes! If I give up now...what the hell do I do with this story that's been stuck in my head for like...a year?! It will drive me more crazy to NOT finish than to just muddle through some how.

Ha Ya, that is the way it goes.  Believe me, I am putting off some things for tonight right now that I would rather put aside and work on a new system campaign that is for next week. Sometimes I think there is too much focus upon the long term campaign.

Be that as it may...I just can not find it within me to say I quit. Mostly because I already do that when it comes to the rest of my life. :p :)

Well, all the concern displays you are a good DM that's for sure.  So, perhaps try to focus on bits in the campaign that amuse you, whether or not the character's have any chance of interacting with them.  If it's a premade campaign, for heaven sake start messing with it in a way that makes you enjoy the last stage of the campaign somehow.  Try to reduce your pregame time as much as possible too, actually set a time limit.  All you get done is all that you need and that's that. ha

Well I will take some of that under advisement. I have done tweaks... I just don't know what else I can do atm. I just really feel like this campaign has taken over my life at times...and I just want to stop. But at the same time, I can't help but feel like "When they see this happen, they will crap their pants!" etc. So... We'll see.

I don't think I have ever really got tired of running a game per say.

It's the miscellaneous crap around it that has occasionally worn me down. In a prefect world where I could just prep and run I would be fine. It's player issues, scheduling issues and that kind of crap I find can get me to the point of just giving up.

Yeah I can honestly say THAT part right there, the miscellaneous crap is what is kind of weighing down some of the fun, vigor and vim I had when I started this campaign.
