This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Traveller trading rules for fantasy campaigns (Wanderer content)

Hey, folks,

Just bumped a thread in the development forum, but it occurred to me that I should send up a flare here - has anyone got any links or content related to adapting the Traveller trading rules to fantasy campaigns?  I could swear I had seen someone working on this very thing, on a blog somewhere, but I can't seem to find it now, soooooo... I'm taking the Book 2 tables and swapping out inappropriate items with fantasy-appropriate ones, and also integrating some stuff from Judges Guild (specifically the "Trade Guide" from Ready Ref Sheets and the "Seatrade Guidelines" from Pegasus #6).

Real quick, am I needlessly duplicating work, here? Has someone already done a bang-up job of this that I missed?

One thing I've noticed:  The Pundit made a comment in the original thread about the D&D Gazetteers having detailed trading rules, already.  I've had a look, and it's readily apparent that these are HEAVILY influenced (pretty much directly based on) the Trav rules.  So I'm using that as a primary source, although it's gonna take a little tweaking (since they used a 3d6 for "actual value" as opposed to 2d6 - guess they didn't want to make it TOO obvious, haha).

You might find some use for Mercator. It's a free fan supplement by the same guy that made Zenobia and Warlords of Alexander.

From website:

MERCATOR
A complete 56 page rules conversion of the Classic Traveller rules-set, turning it from interstellar trade to trade in the Roman Empire! New career tables allow you to roll up centurions from Rome, thieves from Antioch and even tribunes from Caesarea! Of course there are rules for ancient trade, for sailing and weather and also for encounters and equipment in the Roman Empire. Trade in Aramis for Alexandria, Efate for Ephesus and Kinorb for Corinth!

Are you sure they were not in The Minrothad Guilds gazetteer as well?
"Meh."

Actually, yes, but I think the latter was for naval trade, the former for overland trade.

Another fantasy based on Traveller is Worlds Apart, which uses elemental-powered ships to explore and trade on a vast ocean of islands. There's a free version as well as an artful version.
