This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best way to enjoy new GURPS books?

iPads? Ebook readers? Printouts? FedEx Office? Computer only?

Any reliable way to print and bind these suckers?

To answer your question. I'm not too big on pdfs. I don't have a reader or anything portable like that. I have a few pdfs but in my experience, pdf = sitting unread on my hard drive.

So, let's say I do have some 4e material, I'd have FedEx/Kinkos print and spiral bind a copy for me if I intend to get any use at all out of it. Of course, that adds $20 or so dollars to the price of the book.

Are still using VHS as well?

You probably also have a mobile phone the size of a brick that has an extendable antenna.

The 4th edition of GURPS (unlike some other company's "4th edition") is worth it enough to make the change.

Yeah, and you probably wear polyester shirts and Buster Browns and derby hats and drive a Gremlin and have a television manufactured during the Eisenhower administration! Bam! Sick burn!

That's just silly, man. Who cares if he doesn't buy 4E?

I've still got some tapes, yeah. I prefer Savage Worlds nowadays.

I STILL got my Box from first edition - but I run GURPS 4th edition.

The old box is used as storage for Cardboard Heroes minis.

Quote from: joewolz;467015I print them out and put them in sheet protectors, two sheets (back to back) for each sleeve.  I then put them in three ring binders.  I have all the Creatures of the Night done up in a single binder that way.  Ditto the Banestorm stuff.

How long does that take you to do?

Yes, I realize that by asking this question I am admitting to being lazy.

I don't actually run GURPS anymore. I only pick up supplements that are generically useful and I don't care if they're 4th or 3rd edition. Has anything interesting in that respect come out for GURPS 4th yet?

Depends on the book.  I recently did it to a 180 page book.  It took me about 20 minutes.  I had a few bound at Kinko's but it was cheaper to do it this way and instead of waiting, I did the work myself in about the same amount of time.

Depends on what you're looking for, I suppose.

There was a university study a while back that "proved scientifically" the best place to read any book was on the toilet. Apparantly it has something to do with relaxation and concentration being in balance.

I use the PDFs to create cheat sheets by cutting and pasting from the PDF to Word. My group uses most of the GURPS combat options for our fantasy campaign and it isn't that complex provided you have a nice cheat sheet in front of you.

There is a ongoing thread on the SJGames about the use of ebooks with the PDFs. http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=53559

In my opinion the most of books of 4e are better done than their predecessors. Fantasy in particular. GURPS Mysteries is a standout of the 4e line and useful to most any RPG game as it gives solid advice on running mystery plots.

Quote from: Machinegun Blue;467026Haven't made the switch to 4th. Don't see the point in it. All of the 4th edition stuff is either uninteresting or redundant. Plus, I hate pdfs.

Quote from: Koltar;467056NO...

The 4th edition books make more sense and are better edited than the 3rd edition books.

There are also plenty of corrections, fixes, and rule changes between 3rd and 4trh. They streamlined things in a GOOD way.

- Ed C.

I agree with Ed, GURPS 4th edition is overall just a better system and the books are generally more comprehensive and better written. The main thing problem with the line is that it is a high barrier for gamers to adopt it as their main system. For $100 in books you have to a lot of work as a referee to create a campaign.

The Dungeon Fantasy line helps but it would much better if they have a single powered by GURPS RPG for Fantasy, Horror, and Space. Each book implementing GURPS for that genre and giving the same range of material as the leading competitor for that genre. For Fantasy that means, Character creation, combat, magic, monsters, items, and possibly an adventure.
