This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best cons to go to other than Origins and Gen Con

Walking Paradox

Exactly what the subject line says. :) What are the best game conventions to go to, other than the two that are the oldest and the most famous?

All my con experiences have been generally positive:
Gamicon in Iowa City
Con of the North in St. Paul
CONvergence in Minneapolis
Only the former 2 are primarily for gaming.

Yeah, I had fun at Hammercon last year and now have new additions to the gaming group from people we met there.

The problem is not that power corrupts, but that the corruptible are irresistibly drawn to the pursuit of power. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

I use to enjoy Archon in St Louis but that was 30 years ago. Anyone know if it is still going?

Dragon*Con is freaking awesome!

They have lots of great scheduled games from 9am to 1am, and an open gaming room that's open 24 hours a day. Plus parties, panels, and whatever else you could possibly want to do when you're not gaming.

You could come to Continuara, here in Montevideo.  Its not that great a con, really, but if you've gone to all the trouble to come down to South America, you'll have a good time for sure!

GameCon Memphis! Of course..

Memphis has two other Conventions during the year also, MidSouthCon and ShadowCon.

North TX RPG Con
GaryCon

Seconded. Have been to both and had a really great time. They're small enough to feel intimate and hobbyist, but large enough to have a good selection of games (mostly OSR focused) and even a few guys from the old days (if that's important to you - it's not to me).

White Wolf has the Grand Masquerade. It's really bad ass if you like White-Wolf stuff or parties.

On the west coast, the best convention in my opinion is AmberCon NorthWest in Portland - which has plenty of non-Amber gaming.  Games are all assigned in advance, and it has a very social atmosphere - hosted at a historic hotel and brewery.

Of the rest, I think that KublaCon is the best - though I only know southern California conventions (Gamex/Gateway/OrcCon) from years ago and most Northwest ones second-hand (Game Storm, PAX).  I also have enjoyed Pacificon, but I think it has gone downhill in the last few years.

I never knew these existed. I live in Knoxville, so a road trip may be in my future.

And yes, I'm part of GameCon Memphis. ;)
