This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Share with me the METAL!!!!

So, I'm running an AD&D game at the CT old school mini-con in October.  To set the mood, I'm bringing music.  I'm only playing METAL! that was popular from the OD&D through the AD&D 1st ed. years.  Share with me your favorite music you listened to as a kid back in from those years while playing D&D, so I can create my playlist.

METAL!  only!  Because basically, if you played D&D while listening to Bananarama, well, you were a loser, and likely still are.   :)

Please include Artist/Band and Song Title, rather than just saying "Everything from Sabbath, dude!"

Thx!

Hey Joe,

What was your music playlist during the 1E AD&D era?

I was too broke to afford records, so whatever was on the radio.  But lots of Megadeath, Sabbath, Priest, and G&R, AC/DC, and Metallica.  As you can prolly tell, my AD&D yrs were 1984-1988.

We usually copied tapes off one another.  Typically one person would get a particular tape, and make numerous copies from it.  This was spread amongst a group of us, where every person bought some particular original cassettes of several different albums.

Of the D&D groups I played in back in the day, the older players listened to slightly different stuff.

These were typically guys who were five to ten years older than me.  The ones into "metal" were listening to stuff like:

- Boston
- UFO
- Led Zeppelin
- Scorpions (older stuff)
- Styx
- Queen
- Pink Floyd
- Black Sabbath
- Deep Purple
- Alice Cooper (older stuff)
- KISS

Listening to it now, man.  That's some heavy shit.  May not add it to the list unless I want to scare the shit out of the players that a TPK is imminent.  Maybe if I play one of J Raggi's modules or his LOTFP game I'll break it out.   :)
