This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGPundit

What's the highest level of D&D you've played?

Also, when you answer be sure to specify if it was "legit" or not; "legit" in this case meaning that you got to that highest level starting as a Lv.1 character, rather than skipping ahead.

Justin Alexander

36th level in BECMI.

This was legit. (Albeit in a heavily munchkinized campaign.) I wish I had as much time to play D&D now as we did back in 5th and 6th grade.

Peregrin

Level 7/8 party, D&D 3.5, legit.

I've played higher levels in 4e, but not legit -- that was only because we skipped levels in order to run a playtest through the different tiers to see how the mechanics held up.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

FrankTrollman

Does it count as legit if you are using those AD&D "gain 1 level" effects?

Otherwise: 12th level 3rd edition D&D legit. 22nd level 3rd edition D&D starting in the over-ten bracket.

I wrote a game called After Sundown. You can Bittorrent it for free, or Buy it for a dollar. Either way.

This. I also have high level Star Wars and Saga Characters. Never played a lot of 3e to be honest and only briefly brushed with 4e, though I think Saga shares quite a few 4e mechanics.

I'm not sure. It's been so long. I can remember my more memorable characters--but not the highest level ones.

Orion Lawtrue  (AD&D 1E Fighter) got to IIRC 22nd level. He wasn't the highest, but I recalled it fun and unique in that he had few magical items, his most notable one was a +3 Sword, who became known as Deathsinger, after his death, though it didn't have a name before. It is said the blade mourned a truly worthy owner. (Ok the latter is my embellishment when I retired the character..:D)

Absolute highest? I've no idea I suspect is was Talon, Mage/Ranger (dual classed) and eventually rose to demigod-dom after finding the Throne of Zeus (I think, maybe it was Olympus.) He became the scourge of magical items. The world had basically gone rampant with magic item abuse, and his one "special" thing was not magic items for the longest time It was his twisted black talon he had for a hand. Oh he eventually had magical leather armor, and daggers he threw which were glassteel (why because they looked cool.) Yet he disdained magic items except as absolutely necessary. The Throne was the last artifact being sought in a war between artifact wielding nations laden with mage factories churning out all sorts of stuff. (Hence why he became a Ranger, his disgust with the mages of the world.) The throne gave HIM last survivor of the PC's the godlike power, and it was as describe by the GM, the ability to destroy any magic item with his claw. (Big things he had to tear apart.) Mechanically speaking? I really don't know what level is he or what powers and spells or any of the crap. I just recall playing every summer vacation day I could at my friends for around three years.

I also had a good drow elf warrior wizard, with a crystal eye (and a symbol of death carved on it. Flip up eyepatch and bang. He was pretty high..AD&D1E (Unearthed Arcana) Didn't use damn scimitars, preferred the hand crossbows drow used back then primarily.

But really. I recall lesser mortal characters with cool stories more--the "un-played" Solitaire with his inhuman stats (so well rolled, and never really played. I resorted to using an old random adventure generator just to try him out. Nearly died too! But got a lucky roll on a magic potion that stopped the poison from killing him in that random chaos..)

The Mage-Cleric Smith (Arcanist from Dragon maybe?) who fought with a massive maul, who forged magic items to be wielded by the faithful, I wish I had the picture I drew. Buffest looking  half-elf I ever drew..;D Loved the woman, fought with the men, rowdy for a mage-cleric.

I think I still have my Birthright PC, I rolled up but never played somewhere in my book of lamented PC's..

Oh yep, I have him and my really unloved Thalen of the Thorns--Level 1 Paladin, uses a spear, has the bare minimum stats (but one I think) to be a Paladin. Raised by monks in a monastery (classic monks, not AD&D monks, for 2E) He was found abandoned in a thorn patch, the monks raised him to follow the god they followed, and honor people, treat them with respect. They never understood his call to fight.

I think I make the most inefficient D&D characters ever *LOL*

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Tetsubo

1E, legit, 26th level Ranger Lord. I have his portrait on my office wall.

By the time he retired he was psionic, had the ability to shapechange into a rabbit at will, owned two artifacts, a Mark V Blaster, a space station, a cybernetic Pegasus, was married to a Sylph (had two sons) and had a werebear, winged panther and true dragon as followers. His magic item list was two pages long. Ah, the halcyon days of 1st edition... *sigh*

Tahmoh

13 legit AD&D 2nd edition
8 legit D&D 3.5
5 legit D&D (the black box edition from the early ninties)

Your games sound like our early ones as well..
Crazy strange genre crossing things.
I think one of my PC's had the weird gun from Expedition to the Barrier peaks, though I don't think he ever used it.
