This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Allensh;348979I was joking, you know :)

I do think you made some very important points during the playtest and some of them they took, hence the existence of "archetype" characters to simplify creation for the newbies. So yes, you deserved to be up there.

And now I have two games with your name in them :)

Allen

Thanks, and I'm glad to hear that you're collecting games with my name on them. I hope you'll continue that trend once Gnomemurdered is released.

This is full of win, as the kids say:

http://www.heropress.net/2009/12/defending-earth.html

UNIT! The Brigadier on the cover! (Two in fact...). CLASSIC Cybermen, Daleks and of course a Yeti! And if they are going to cover UNIT properly, they will have to provide stats for at least the 3rd Doctor, and maybe the second as well! Expanded combat rules including a mass combat system and skirmish rules!

Yes, this is a set I will have to get.

T. Foster

:D about the UNIT box. That said, I hope it retains their depiction from the series as being pretty much fuck-ups whose intervention almost invariably makes situations worse, and who are continually trying to screw over The Doctor even after he saves their asses yet again, rather than portraying them as too competent and/or unambiguously heroic (which will surely be tempting considering the prevalent military/hardware/blow-shit-up fetish among gamers).

Fantastic!

I'm looking forward to this one; a duly inspiring cover, too.

I now have the game in my hands.

This is absolutely THE best RPG I have seen in awhile in terms of physical construction, graphics and just general overall coolness.

What a wonderful thing to be able to open a BOX again...I have really missed boxed sets. And while there's no room to store additional things in the box, it comes crammed to the gills with goodness! I consider it worth both the price I paid for it and the wait (even though the end of that wait was driving me buggy)

Awesome. I can't wait.

Placed my order for a copy of the boxset last night(play.com got them in abit earlier than they listed) so hopefully i'll be able to read through it over the holdays between watching the last 2 specials.

I ran the game last night, won't go into spoilery details but I used the shorter of the two adventures that came with the game. No shots fired in anger but much action, roleplaying and excitement ensued. We had a great time.

It's so much nicer running with the real books...the TOC (located on the back covers of the book) makes it a lot easier to look up stuff than using the manuscript...but we only stopped to look up a rule (the Degree of Success chart) once. when I get the GM screen we may never need to look up stuff again most of the time.

The adventure also featured the coolest name for a starship I had ever seen..."Retribution on Receipt of Correct Paperwork"

I got it yesterday! I got it! Merry Christmas to me! The box portion of the boxed set wasn't what I was thinking it was going to be, but it's nice and I think very serviceable. The production values are great - it's so purdy!

I work at a computer games company. Friday was a slow day (hit a milestone the day before... nothing to do while it was being QAed), so I was chatting with a coworker about games and such. He didn't know about the Doctor Who game, so I told him about it (I had the .pdf and was reading it).

I walked back to my desk, and he IMed me before I sat down telling me that he'd called a local store. 10 minutes later we raced across town to get a copy (they'd put them on the shelves 30 minutes prior).

He bought a copy for a friend's Christmas present. We stopped at a burger place for lunch, and he looked at the game, decided "screw it", opened it for himself, and then called the store to put another copy aside so he could go back later and get that one to give as a present.

We spent lunch oohing and aahing about it.

I've got at least 200+ core rulebooks and maybe 50 boxed games (dating back 25 years) and this is the absolute nicest looking boxed game set I've ever seen.

My copy was preordered through Amazon (due sometime in the next couple of weeks) but I've got the .pdf and am quite impressed with the content as well.

I haven't watched Doctor Who since the Peter Davison days, but I'm looking forward to playing this game.

That's quite inspiring. Not "racing across time to retrieve the Key of Rassilon from the Daleks" inspiring, but inspiring nonetheless.

I finally started reading and it's quite fun.

Hopefully going to turn my gaming group from Delta Green in the new year (as we have one member disappearing on paternity leave and they're looking for an alternative).

Correction... Amazon.com shipped my copy today. It'll be here for Christmas.

Just finished roughing out the details of an adventure..I came up with the basics well over a week before my game arrived, and some folks on the unofficial forum helped me out with some of the finer details (particularly Trevellian). Now I start doing up the NPCs.

elements of the adventure:

- set in Chicago, 1929.

- involves: Capone, Eliot Ness, Slitheen, Judoon, and bootleg beer that doesn't cause hangovers...but does cause spontaneous combustion :)

- a possible conflagaration that will make the Great Chicago Fire look like a flickering match...unless the characters can prevent it!

Did it make it? 'Cause Amazon shipped out one of my packages on the 14th. It has yet to arrive - it got sent from Denver, where I live, on to Bethpage, NY.

It arrived on the 23rd... and my wife threw some wrapping paper on it and gave it to me as a present. Gonna read it tomorrow and over the next week of vacation.
