This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

That's a spectacular photo, like your coverage, Zach.

I think we had a good coverage with a variety of sources here. Zach's thread here of course. GameDaddy's posts on the alarm, me and the screenshots, YouTube vids etc, all the rumors and discussions spawning from it all. Maybe we should discuss more and try to see how we could build on this to have more synergy later on?

Zach, while I keep meaning to, I've never been to Gen Con, however this year I felt that a little bit of GenCon came to me, and that's all because of you man. So put me down as someone who appreciates all the hard work you have done.

Thank you very much!

I'd be pleased to!  We can always look at how better to incorporate more Gen Con coverage in a centralized location.

Alright. Shall we create a new thread for that, somewhere?

If you'd like!  I think I may need a day to regroup. :)

Alright. We'll all think about it for a little while, and I'll create a thread later on. :)

Zach, the photo and narrative coverage presented here of GenCon was simply awesome! The folks that benefit the most from this, are the people that can't attend the show. There's many more people that don't attend, than do attend, and this thread let them be a part of the biggest gaming show of the year. Thank You, and well done!

Just a few notes here on my twitter post, I hadn't intended to post anything except a few comments for the show. It was a bit surprising though when pix of massive numbers of fire trucks and thousands of gamers out on the Indy streets started showing up on my desktop... Couldn't really let that go by, without a news post since the "pizza fire" event was unfolding live, It was a total disruption of the largest gaming venue at the show, and it was during the busiest gaming session of the show, The Saturday evening gaming slot.

Overall during GenCon there were over 3,500 unique tweets by well over 1,200 individuals, and more than a hundred game and media companies. The Enny award winners were broadcast live, as well as many, many other events. Game invitations, party invitations, meeting invitations, discounts, Swag giveaways, and GenCon specials were advertised live. There were links to press releases, podcasts, blog updates, other video, and photo archive uploads. Twitter coverage should definitely be included with traditional media coverage of the show.

A few more interesting events that are noteworthy:

Paizo didn't totally sell out of Pathfinder, so you can still order and receive the Pathfinder RPG. I wouldn't count on it to remain in stock for long though.

Some girl tried using twitter to hunt down her boyfriend during the course of the show. She wanted him to come home. She was still tweeting away this afternoon when I shutdown my event tracking. You can file that under #comedy.

A number of game companies and individuals setup twitter accounts during the show and started tweeting. Scott Rouse at WOTC actually setup a new twitter account yesterday and is now a tweeter.

Most of the vendors that were on Twitter reported better than average sales, even though attendance was down slightly from 2008. Some Vendors sold out completely. Green Ronin sold out of their Fire & Ice RPG, SJG Sold out of all of their newest games, including Revolution! Kenzer & Co. had a good time at the show as well!

My vote for favorite costume was the Norrath girl! Woo!

No pics of 8 foot tall Chewbacca?

He actually ducked his head  under the frame and posed for people in our jail.

My sentiments exactly.  :)  Much appreciated Zach.

Chaotic Lawyer and Shit-Stirrer

JRients:   "Joe the Lawyer is a known shit-stirrer. He stirred the shit. He got banned. Asking what he did to stir the shit introduces unnecessary complication to the scenario, therefore he was banned for stirring the shit."

+1 on the praise. Zach is THE Source.

Im kind of anti Gencon due to how it seems to be treated as the center of the hobby games universe and all, but your liveblog was cool dude.

It almost makes me not anti GC.  Almost.

(And to go back to my comment about sparing the company snark will spoil them, it does not mean that one should be genuinely rude, harassing, or hateful to the company or its employees.  However kissing their keisters and praising anything they do even if its stupid is not good mojo.)

Spinachcat

Good job Zack!

I hope with all the coverage you actually got to do some gaming.
