This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Chaosium is offering a free 32-page Quickstart version of Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying system.

That's very cool. The old one was fun.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

GnomeWorks

Huh, that is much neater than I was expecting it to be.
Mechanics should reflect flavor. Always.
Running: Chrono Break: Dragon Heist + Curse of the Crimson Throne (D&D 5e).
Planning: Rappan Athuk (D&D 5e).

Yeah, this is a good move by Chaosium.  This quickstart is devoid of powers like mutations, magic, and psionics.  However, this quickstart is perfect for checking BRP once again, for you oldies but goodies, and to see how Jason complied the various BRP subsystems together into a super BRP toolkit.

Nice!  So many cool freebies added to my library lately.

One of those games I've always heard about but never taken a look at. I think I'll download it tonight. :)

Thank you for the link!

I remember the first BRP Quick-Start I got back in 1981 that came in a box set of dungeon tiles called Fantasy Paths.  It even came with a sample adventure!

BTW, if you can find Fantasy Paths, Castle Paths or Village Paths on eBay, they are extremely cool but made for 15mm-20mm figs.

You're welcome. :)  I've a copy of Fantasy Paths.  I've been searching for the other two for several years now (for a reasonable price).

I'm really glad they did this.
I've got the BIG book of BRP, which is excellent, but now I've got something to toss at people so they can bone up on the rules... plus my pal in Seattle has been wanting to start playing RPGs and this would be a perfect start for him.

Now if Jason can just get the Interplanetary book out the door I'll be a very happy BRP fan.

My copy looks like a 'negative' with respect to all of the illustrations (i.e., what should be white is black, and vice versa).  It also prints up like this.  Anyone else have this problem?  Anyone know how to fix it?

hmm... that's weird.  I don't have any issues with the copy that I downloaded.  I'm using a PC and I'm fairly computer illiterate, so I'm useless to you on this one. :(

Did you check the version of acrobat reader on your computer and on their website ? Maybe you just need an update. The windows version has an update item in the help menu. It's probably the same for you.

I'm on a MacBook Pro, too.  If I use Preview, I see the "negative" illustrations.  If I use Adobe Reader, it looks correct.  I don't know if it's a problem with Preview or with the document, but using Reader works-around it.
