This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

IIRC the English levy at Hastings were the "fyrd"; the huscarls were the well-trained troops and were a professional army rather than either "commoners" or nobles per se.

Bear in mind that when it comes to the Middle Ages, England is always different.

Then again that's largely because medieval studies is very Gallocentric while also paying attention to England. Therefore the English are "different" because they're not French, but at least they're on the radar unlike all the other different folks.

Quote from: Ian Absentia;274402I'm pretty sure you're referring to Fief, which is fantastic.  You know, the book itself, not that you're recommending it.

!i!

[Edit:  Wait -- she did write a book titled Medieval France, as listed on the Cumberland site, though I can't find a link to it off-hand.]

I am, you're right.  Medieval France never came out, or if it did came out so briefly I never saw it.  But Fief I have and would be really useful for the OP.  I got the titles mixed up.

Quote from: Balbinus;274395I'd second that actually, good suggestion.  Have you played the expansion?

Deus Vult? Yeah, I've got it.

I'm hoping for a CKII, but I think CK is the least popular of Paradox's games for some reason, and unlikely to get a sequel.
