This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Stand in..

I don't explicitly push d20 Haven often. I do link to things there often and drop hints in posts on other things. But I try to not push it, and Pundit's been good about not making an issue of it - and I appreciate it.

However, since this site is going to be down for a bit while it gets an overhaul (good luck guys!), I thought I'd explicitly offer d20 Haven as a stand in for anyone interested.

If you're worried about it being overly focused the d20 game or 3.x D&D, take a look at this post over there. while I'd like to create a place where d20 discussion reaches a critical mass, I love the diversity of the folks and games that are part of the general gaming discussions. Chances are, you'll recognize a bunch of folks, too!

I will say if you're looking for "war" discussion, they are thin, at best.

So, come on by if you want to talk about gaming and TheRPGSite isn't done being overhauled for our usual antics.

And Pundy/Mods - if you feel it out of place, feel free to dump this post/thread.

James,

In your opinion does the new 4th edition version of D&D count as "d20". ??

I am curious because I played in the demo games last Saturday and I wound up rolling the d20 more than any oither die on the table. It may be a new "Dungeons & Dragons" , but it still seems to have d20 as its main game mechanic.

Now I admit, I am NOT an expert on 3rd edition D&D  - but this new stuff still seemed like d20 gaming to me.

Ask it over there :D

That's up to WotC. I think, in the large picture, the term d20 will be inescapably linked to 3e D&D. I think this will only be supported by the changes that WotC is making in the licensing/SRD stuff.

But the beauty of something like d20 as a term is how ubiquitous it is and how synonymous it is with gaming.

Now before anybody goes crazy and tells me how stupid I am as I'm inferring that games based on pools of d6 are just as important and so forth - I know. But nothing, to me, says RPG like the funny shaped dice.

It's why I chose it for a name - it's something specific and general at the same time.

so if folks want to really discuss 4e, I'm all for it. In the case of d20 Haven, it will be in the General Gaming, however - not the d20 or 3e forums...

I don't know if this muddies the waters but the new books do have a d20 logo printed on them.

walkerp

Well there is going to be a new D20 license and it makes sense that Dungeons & Dragons will fall under that license, which is probably why the logo is there.

Hmm, maybe I will have to continue my hate-on for D20.

I was referring the new d20 logo to muddying the waters for the 3e/d20 direction of James' d20Haven site; not the whole d20-OGL-GSL-3e-4e brouhaha.

I don't know if you have done this, but one of my d20 lovin' crew visited your forum and commented how it would be useful, if you had a BigList of d20 links, just like JimBob's BigList. You could have links to free d20 games, threads, actual plays, design discussions etc.

Who are you trying to kid? You never stopped your hate-on for d20. It defines you.
"Meh."

I'd highly recommend everyone go over to d20haven while the move is going on, except one of the things I like most about d20haven is that most of the people here aren't there.
When you\'re a bankrupt ideology pursuing a bankrupt strategy, the only move you\'ve got is the dick one.

I appreciate the recommendation, Engine...I think...wait...

Regardless, folks - come on over for a bit and see if you like it.
