This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Can 2FT be played for laughs?

One of my major goals for an upcoming campaign is to run a 2FT game, and while I've flirted with other ideas (a Tintin style game, an "early golden age supers in WWII" campaign, etc) the one I keep coming back to again and again is to run a Venture Brothers style campaign, a kind of fucked-up version of Johnny Quest played mostly tongue-in-cheek.

So is this utter pulp sacrilege? Or what?

No, why would it be? It's a game. Do with it as you will.

I'm not sure what 2FT is, but if a game exists that can't be played for laughs, it's useless to me. Not that we play every game for laughs, but if a system and/or setting takes itself so seriously that there's no room for humor, I don't wanna play it.

Remember J-Men Forever? The Firesign Theater cut up and reassembled a number of old famous movie serials from the forties and redid the soundtrack. The resutant story was a manic tale of the Lightening Bug and his fiendish plot to take over the world with sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

That's how almost all my pulp scenarios evolve, regardless of the loftiness or grittiness with which they begin. I must like it, because we do it a lot.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.

OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Is "thou shalt not maketh of this game a joke" in the rulebook somewhere? If not, go for it. If so, house rule it away and go for it.

Two Fisted Tales is, in my opinion, the most versatile Pulp-RPG out there. As a result it lends itself to all sorts of play styles. So, tongue-in-cheek? Why not?
