This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

{Favorite} What dice systems do you enjioy?

Anything that doesn't require me to do a lot of counting (ie not Starwars d6).

Skyrock

I prefer roll-over systems and pool systems, but I can also work with under-roll as in Cthulhu.

What totally bugs me out are addition systems where you count your dice together - they are pretty time-consuming.
Extra minus points to R&K where you have to pick your X best dice _and_ then again count them together _and_ then also let all 10s explode and count in the new results. That's what I call a show-stopper.

I also don't like Fudge for the strange d6s and add/substract system alone (though I have those funky dice still lie around here).

When I write "TDE", I mean "The Dark Eye". Wanna know more? Way more?

My favorite mechanic is the percentile roll under, mostly because of Star Frontiers, although Chill Mayfair had some cooliness too.

Funny that so many other people on this thread said the same, when on most forums if you mention "percentile" OR "roll under" you get ripped a new one.

I think the D6 system is cool too, but only at low "levels".  If that game was somehow capped at 6 dice (or so) it would be a much better system IMHO.

Feng Shui's positive die + negative die.  Creates a zero-average, normal distribution over the range of -5 to +5.  By far my favourite.

Next is Silhoutte's dice pool.  Simple, fast, d6 only.

I also like Arrowflight's dice pool system.  Roll Xd6 equal to stat.  Each die that rolls less than your skill rank is a success.  Count successes and compare to TN.

And I'm also one of the few (the proud, the crazy?) that really likes Earthdawn's Step system.

I've got to echo the love for the silhouette thing.

Love me some bell curves.

My personal favorite is 4dF (Fudge Dice).  But 3d6 is pretty good too... has the benefit of being the most common dice.  GURPS has such a simple and elegant core mechanic (it's a shame about the rest of the game).

d% is not too bad either, I suppose.  At least working out the odds is very simple.

I stand beside you, noble brother in arms, nodding with sage-like intensity for I too happen to be down to town with Earthdawn's Step System. Burn the unbelievers. Salt their lands. BWHAHHAHA!

I need to stop typing while I'm on Ambien.

I prefer 3d6 roll under.  I don't mind lots of dice for damage though.

After having finally done some Shadowrun, I am not a big fan of dice pools.  It's ok, but not preferential.
