This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It got talked about in various gaming magazines. Past that not sure.

Keep in mind that SPI used to be absolutely huge in the wargaming circles and had a fair presence in board games too. I am betting they promoted it in their gaming magazine The General. But how much overlap was there between wargamers and those who followed a prime time soap opera?

Of all the game publishers out there, at the time and even now SPI was well known for how well they had an idea of what their customer base liked or wanted. TSR used to try and emulate that, but fell by the wayside.

I'd love to know what the actual sales figures were. It must have worked out to some degree as they went on to try another IP based RPG.

NOW it shows up on a search!!!

Thank you. 1990. 3 years before the animated series.

Also I missed in the list the Star Wars RPG and the Star Trek RPG. Added to the list for my own recording as I've done IP based work and know what a nuisance it can be.

Well that's new to me; thanks! Adding to the list.

And I appreciate the history on Dallas. I had no idea it was that popular of a show.

I really can't figure out why I ever bought this thing, but it's still on the bookshelf to this day. I think I read through the rules once and played with the hand puppets a couple times, but I just cannot bring myself to get rid of it.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Used, it retails for $50 USD to $100 USD. Find a fan of the show and gift it to them if you don't like reselling.

And I appreciate the history on Dallas. I had no idea it was that popular of a show.

For a time there were a bunch of prime time soap operas and a few late night ones too. Some were more Barney Miller or Soap style near stage performances. Others were huge sprawls like Dallas which were not limited at all to a stage as it were.
