This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGnet's Slide Into Idiot-level Tyranny

European stereotypes bleed into everything, but Tolkien never deliberately acknowledged anything racially analogous in a time period when it would have been relatively acceptable to do so.

So the self-appointed guardians of gaming have become the thought police as well. I'm beginning to think that these so-called progressive laid back tolerant hippie types aren't as chill as they would have us believe. In fact, I can see how one might accidentally mistake them for uptight control freaks
I wonder if their political websites ban people for playing the wrong Role PLaying Game.

Not that it's a good policy, it's nakedly partisan and stupid, but this doesn't seem like news.

Unless they didn't remember they already had this policy and this is some new reban I'm not aware of? which does seem in-character for them.

I recall reading an admin post that said basically it's 100% true that races are analogous to real world ethnicities and denying that Orcs = Blacks is racist and will get you banned.
I think aren't comparing races and fantasy races so much as suggesting less-enlightened folks do that. Those less enlightened folks are racist monsters and those on the left are pure and woke for pointing it out. It doesn't occur to them that this idea was spawned by and maintained by the left and that they are because projecting their own racism.

So saying that fantasy races are equivalent to real world races gets you a week long ban unless you say that orcs are black people and then it doesn't.  Typical TBP.

At first I thought that I misread the thread title as:

"RPGnet's slide into idiot-level Tranny."

Then I realized that actually, no, no I didn't...

Its been that way with every iteration. They preach freedom, but they are 100% intolerant and oppressive. And about every time they will sooner or later start trying to tell whatever their current pet minority or handicap is that they cant do this and cant say that and huh... they weren't really our friends afterall were they?

This all makes me want to support Trump just to piss them off and I'm not even American.

But they've always been crying about people with different political beliefs. How dare you not be a lemming and have your own political thoughts and ideology.

I wouldn't go near that forum with a virtual hazmat suit on.

For further evidence (as if any was needed), consider this: A poster who spoke approvingly of the July assassination attempt got the following ban --

QuoteRegardless of any feelings, we don't allow anyone to encourage illegal reactions, like assassinations for political reasons. Take three days off and do not post in this thread again.

So supporting a politician of opposed views is worth permanent expulsion but expressing sympathy with wanting that man murdered is only worth three days. I don't even know how I could explain the problem with that kind of priority distortion to someone suffering from it.

Quote from: I on February 12, 2025, 08:17:27 PMI really miss getting to read their infractions.  Not enough to create an account and go undercover there, but still.  My favorites were the ones where they would ban one of their fellow lefties for agreeing with them in the wrong way.

I still think the funniest ban I saw there was either Louis Cachet's (Varg) ban (if it was even him lol) after years of not being active, or the dipshit who was running a modern game and was talking about how to make improvised explosives.

Quote from: RNGm on February 13, 2025, 10:05:47 AMThere were, if I recall correctly, text balloon popups propagandizing for trans, BLM, TDS, and illegal immigration.
I don't know about that, but I did recall that they had a policy that you were allowed to do group attacks on ICE. Like normally if you go "all teachers are bastards" or something, that's a "group attack" and a no-no. But they allowed the customs guys. Because they do evil things like expel migrants (debatably wrong?) and try to stop drugs and terrorists coming into the country (less debatably wrong). I wasn't sure so I went to look at their rules.

There are complete roleplaying games with fewer rules than this. The rules could be a lot shorter if they just said, "no politics, just games and nerdy media" and left it at that.

But let's be honest, nowadays rpg.net is a play-by-post game where they roleplay gamers, it's the closest they get to the game table.

Same with DriveThruRPG: On my own terms.  I raised my prices 100x, then said, "Get 99% off when you buy from Big Geek Emporium".  Because it was only a matter of time I would be banned for posting material using "unacceptable" language.

While it's a poor substitute for Infractions, some fun can be had simply by reading down the list of thread titles.  In addition to the infamous "Anti-Fascist Games" one, there are threads on colorful hair dyes in RPGs and furry-friendly games.

I know how the illegals feel. I'm an alcoholic & they keep setting up these random DUI checkpoints. You have no idea what a chilling effect this has had on the alcoholic community. I know people who are too terrified to even drink & drive anymore. I am literally shaking... mostly in my hands...

I didn't know about that website. Thanks.

I'm probably going to regret asking, but what's the issue with DriveThru? I don't really keep up on all the goings-on in the hobby, unless it pops up in my feed on youtube.

They caved to the idealogues and bigots a couple years back when they banned a product (an adventure? I can't recall) that was pro-life due to the leftist mob complaining yet had multiple products that were pro-abortion.   I don't know if there was more than that before or after but that's the one I remember making the news.   Either don't allow products to reference a contentious issue or allow them to.. but don't choose a "winner" in the debate by only allowing one side on a supposedly neutral market place.
