This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Note: "Humans" is an entry in most Monster Manuals.

I want to believe that this kinda crazy isn't the norm in the RPG community at large. I'm going to Origins next year for the 50th anniversary and I don't want to deal with this kind of stupid.

I read that like five times and have no clue wtf he's talking about. Or her. Xir. Whatever.

Also, the "anti-fascist" thread...wtf is wrong with these people? I bet if you made a thread asking for anti-communist RPGs you'd be permabanned instantly.

Quote from: blackstone on December 10, 2024, 09:05:48 AMThe gay space communism thread is so fucking out there. There's nothing more pathetic than reading a bunch of pseudo-intellectual garbage.

As far as the other one: sadly pathetic. People who want to "punch a Nazi in the face", and yet most of the rainbow-haired nut-job brigade are highly anti-Semitic.

The thing is, we didn't punch Nazis. We shot and killed them. If they're not going to follow through and kill those they deem Nazis, then it shows they either don't think they're really Nazis, or intend to degrade the concept into toothless mush.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Wouldn't self-professed socialists technically be Nazis? Anyway...

Bringing it back to RPGs, and to address the original comment I replied to, the internet has amplified the voices of the mentally ill to such a degree that people legitimately think it's all fucking insane maniacs running around with blue hair, clamoring about puberty blockers and not being able to pay their student loans because they blew all their money on Hawk Tuah coin. They're such a small, small portion of society that it's incredible we even consider them in any capacity. The RPG thing, in my experience most gamers, in general, sure, nerds and whatever, but a lot of the older ones are married with families and have real jobs and stuff. The younger ones are usually in college or working their way up the corporate ladder. For the most part, they are normal. All it takes is a few thousand obnoxious fucktards on a messageboard, spread over seven continents, to make us all look bad.

That said, RPGs are meant to be played with your friends; it's a very social activity that has, sadly, become less and less social due to the push for electronic gaming and including people who have no business being outside a mental institution.

It certaibly hasn't taken "a few thousand" to do it here.

Well, in their defense, have you seen much in the way of straight space communism RPG conversation going around the internet since 1989?   I haven't personally and I've been on the internet since just before the first graphical web browser.   Maybe rainbow reds in SPAAAACE is the baseline for that subgenre...   :)

Yeah, just you and a handful of other posters have managed it all by yourselves.

No, I believe you make the site look bad, by putting words in other posters' mouths.  New users here might assume that low-effort snark and trolling is the norm here, when it's mostly just you and a couple other posters that do so.  Pundit just hasn't gatekept enough...

Hey, hey, hey - Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism. Get it right. Er, left. I mean, keep it straight! No, wait, that's not right either. Damn, I did it again...

I think the fact RPG.net has had a pride flag as its logo for years now speaks volumes. It's basically Reddit of forums; anything not following leftist bullshit and believing all left-wing propaganda makes you a "bigot" and you should be banned.

This is the kind of statement that, if taken out of its RPG.net context, I would have no idea if it's parody or not.

blackstone

it's too bad rpg.net removed the bans they do. The stuff they ban you for is, shall we say, alarming.
1. I'm a married homeowner with a career and kids. I won life. You can't insult me.

2. I've been deployed to Iraq, so your tough guy act is boring.
