This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Well the satic panic rears its head again.

This is nothing new. Back round 2010 or so Either Israel or some Jewish organization banned the cartoon Flight of Dragons.

BGG covert unseens RPGs and board games on a regular bases that offend their sensebilities. Games they never even bother to actually look at and see if the hew and cry was real or not.

Even here there used to be members calling for RPGs to be "cleaned up" so "people will respect us!!!"

20+ years later and they have succeeded in getting us now labeled "kidults". yeahhhhh. respeeeeect.

The term "Adulting" being a real thing, I would say there are a lot of adults who still behave and think like children, and not in the good ways where you're creative and imaginative, but in the bad ways where you try and not take responsibility or do things that are requires.
So yeah "kidults" is probably warranted as a label for some people. Like.. treating cats or dogs as a replacement for having children.

Except that is not even remotely how the term is being used. wotc wants D&D to be more "toyetic" and appeal to "kidults" which is apparently ALL the players they believe. Its even been used on CNN to describe the player protest over the OSR blowup.

I dunno, the kidults seem like the same kind of people who say "adulting" when reluctantly doing responsible things.

as someone who grew up during the original satanic panic, it is SO weird seeing copies of D&D rule books on the shelves at walmart next to the bibles.

Notice it's mostly women who are in on this? I find it strange we aren't seeing more and more of this, now that Trump won the election. They did the same thing when Regan won the election. Coincidence? I think not. Controlled-fucking-opposition is what all this is, imho. They have to keep tradition and, in particular, the real Christian church oppressed or else they lose! IMHO.

Yeah. For a time the BX, Star Frontiers and Gamma World boxed sets were in department stores. Remember finding it in the board game section.

Unfortunately where I lived was still believing the Satanic Panic and one of my players was taken away by the church one day and was not till years later learned he had been sent to a "cult deprogramming camp" and was trapped there for 2 years. There was nothing left in him when I saw him.

The mom of two of my other players freaked out and moved out of state.

And through this the library we were using to game in by renting an office kept fabricating complaints and eventually trashed the meeting room and blamed it on us.

Cool story. Has he written a book?

I'm not gonna say that the satanic panic was right, but I've never met a satanist that didn't also play D&D.

I should hope not! I mean, where else would someone like you meet a self-avowed satanist?
Old School? Back in my day we just called it "School."

The Democratic National Convention?

Sounds like something Philip K. Dick would've written... Did it work, or is he still voting Democrat?
