This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Greetings,

This Friday is My Birthday.
I told friends and aquantances that I either want to see a new movie in a real theater OR run a game session on Friday.

SO, If I get a last minute game group together - what are some good ideas for a short three hour game session?
We would likely play between 6:00 pm and 9 pm.

If I did the 'Star Trek' setting I have plenty of leftover NPCs from the recent campaign...

 - OR -

I could run a brief adventure or edncounter in the Banestorm setting of Yrth.

....Or....:

Another thought - Police officers who discover Vampires in the bad part of town.

Or - Maybe strange events are happening in and near Cincinnati Museum Center /Union terminal and the players discover a buried portal or time machine in the basement there...

Second Council of Elrond. The party are a suicidal distraction intended to draw the eye of Sauron away from the Fellowship. No sneaking around, go big.

Their chosen path may be set by the DM or by the players but they are told to avoid the Fellowship (PCs don't know the Fellowship changed course into Moria). GM really only needs the premise and a few on-road encounters with a good location for a final battle when the Eye of Sauron finally catches them.

If the players enjoy it you can make a campaign out of the rarely discussed third or fourth councils of Elrond that had similar missions but took different courses to Mordor.

Personally, if I have little time to prep, I would go with the one where I already have a ton of NPCs. This one of the ingenious things about my Runquest 2 box; it came with a ton of NPC stats.

Another one, PCs are familiars working for a vampire coven in whatever big city you are most familiar with. During they day they have to do errands for the bloodsuckers. A mission could be:
* Theft (ancient artifact in a museum or private collection),
* Assassination (vampire killers and politicians that no longer take bribes)
* Tracking and killing (some beast that got loose that Vampires don't want the normals to know about).
* Shopping (a store in an unused subway terminal where the market sells strange things the hidden Vampire society needs
* Rescue (one of their masters friends was out to late and forced to seek shelter in a condemned building used as an emergency crash pad for vampires, now they must be extracted).
