Watched Alien: Romulus.

They did some weird shit I'm not quite 100% on board with, but in the grand scheme of things I was damned pleased with the movie.

Dug out my old copy of Starchaser: Legend of Orin. An animated movie from the 80s that first came out in 3D.

Weeeeeird movie across the board. I think it took inspiration too much from Star Wars. But the critics seemed to only see that at the time and ignored all the remarkable things about the movie.

Looks good. Good voicing. And while the plot meanders - that is hardly anything new. It has the feel of animated movies like Gandahar, AKA Light Years, and Time Masters.

If you swapped the setting for fantasy and changed the miners to dwarves, kobolds, or such, it could make for an interesting RPG adventure.

Thornhammer

The 40K episode of Secret Level is up.

Brief, only about 20 minutes. But badass and violent.

If you have seen Astartes, you'll find that this strongly rhymes. I think Astartes was better, but this worked.

The first ~30 minutes of that movie was fantastic. The dystopian corporate mining colony, the plucky crew, the abandoned station.

Once the aliens popped out it was ...fine, I enjoyed it. But until it had to put aliens in the alien movie I thought it was brilliant. Maybe there's room for a no-alien story in that universe? With the penguin show being so well received I think there might.

Banjo Destructo

I still kinda like prometheus, but after it I have been reluctant to watch any of the newer "alien" franchise movies.

Omega

I tried watching Prometheus. But the story and the characters were so utterly ruthlessly stupid at every single turn. The sequel was somehow even more stupid. Romulus tries to outdo them both.

HappyDaze

I saw Kraven. It was...okay, I guess, but nothing great.

The fans who can't find the humor in the show and laugh at what they love are terminal Trekkies who think that Gene Roddenberry was the second coming of Christ and should be mocked.

I'll never understand this modern ideal that in order to be a fan of a franchise, you need to despise the person that created the franchise; whether it's Roddenberry, Lovecraft, JK Rowling, Stan Lee, and even Gary Gygax. This list goes on.

Sometimes I think that I might just be an old man yelling at clouds but it wasn't like this when I was a kid. I loved Ray Harryhausen, but it didn't cause me to hate Willis O'Brien and King Kong. I loved them too.

Swing and a miss, dude!

I haven't liked Roddenberry since I read about how he screwed over Harlan Ellison with "City on the Edge of Forever" and my dislike was confirmed when he screwed over David Gerrold with his show bible for TNG that had to go to court so he could get paid for his work. So, about 20-25 years. No modern fandom about it.
"Meh."

Watched "I Saw The TV Glow" today and I enjoyed it tremendously. On the flipside, watched "Strange Darling" and I got bored out of my mind.

I watched the other movie from the "I Saw..." director - "We're All Going to the World's Fair" - and I did not enjoy that one bit.

I think it was aimed at a fairly specific audience, of which I am not a member, and members of that audience might get a lot more out of it.

Anyway, less negative: Finished Breaking Bad with the missus. Excellent. I think I liked Better Call Saul better, but not by a huge amount.

It could work, I think. There were some lore teases in the Colonial Marines Technical Manual that could work fairly well, or just colonists vs corporate fuckery.

I was actually thinking a similar thing about "I Saw..." since after the movie I did a bit of reading about it. For sure it targeted a specific audience due to a lot of it motifs and themes, yet while I'm not part of said audience I actually perceived the movie in a completely different way and have found enjoyment. Perception is a wonderful thing and I love it when a movie manages that.

I loved I saw the TV glow. That ending was heartbreaking, it stuck with me for a while.

colombus1592

Watched Ken Russel's "Lair of the white worm", and had a blast. It could make a good adventure for some Cthulhu-esque RPG.
