LOL Those chase rules sound mega retarded. I'm nowhere close to fighting shape anymore, and I can still run for over a minute without dying. I guess this is what you get when you hire 500# diversity consultants who run out of breath going up 10 stairs.

Yes. You think "this is totally unrealistic" and then you think about the state of general health of some of the DEI crowd.

Yeah, but can you do it while carrying 120lbs of gear? Even the weakest D&D adventurer (Strength 8 ) can carry 120lbs without being encumbered in the least.

This is not the time to try and demand strict realism from the D&D mechanics, as they never followed such closely before.

For a minute? Yes. Furthermore, if we are to ignore realism in the fantasy game, which we should, shouldn't we err on the side of fun and heroic? Dying after a minute of running is retarded. Hence, the rule fails at evoking the genre.

AD&D Strength and encumbrance actually mapped to, at the time, human limits. An 18/00 STR allowed carrying up to a bit over the limits known for lifting if I recall right. The average STR STR 8-11 for normal carrying was 35lb unencumbered. 70lb encumbred. 105lb heavy encumbered and over 105lb had the character slowed to a crawl.

A character with 18/00 STR could carry 300lb more so 335lb unencumbered up to 405lb heavily encumbered. (fixed math.)

Amateurs implies these people are simply unskilled or inexperienced, the fact of the matter is they are not game designers period.

They write ethnic cookbooks for vegans.

Someone should write up an absurdly woke scenario along those lines and see what happens. Quests could include going to a protest against Half Orcs (who we now know are a racist concept) and support of Strahd rally's (because suggesting some folks are totally evil is wrongthink) and of course getting folks to sign a petition demanding wheelchair access at Castle Greyhawk.

*Laughing* Hilarious, Ruprecht!

I agree though. Having some kind of super-Woke adventure module like that you describe would be non-stop fun! It all sounds so absurdly ridiculous, while being so on-point because all of it is not really fantastic parody at all--in some ways it is, of course--but also because it is absolutely accurate and taken with inspiration right from what we see going on throughout our society.

It's so stupid it's funny, but so painfully true.

I can tell you, I have had similar inspiration for including such elements in a series of adventures for my campaign, and my players would absolutely love it all. They would be dying from laughing non-stop!

Greetings!

*Laughing* So true, brother!

You know me. I'm definitely a "Foodie" and I love coffee. All terrific things. Somehow though, the Woke morons make me feel *ICKY* and ridiculous with such attention paid to good food and fine coffee.

I sometimes wonder how deeply emotionally and mentally damaged the Woke people are. You have a heroic fantasy adventure game, with all of the fantastic inspiring elements of history and fantasy rolled up together--but Woke morons have somehow taken an off-ramp and collectively said "NO" to all of that--and instead focus on interesting side-dishes in a normal game session and make them the focus of the entire game.

Making tacos? Eating Sushi? Working at a coffee shop? Making friends in the courtyard?

The Woke people make all of that sound so infantile, and childish. In a weird way, you know? Normal things that are at least mildly interesting, entertaining, and fun--and yet, the way they present it and obsess over it with such bright-eyed enthusiasm makes me roll my eyes in contempt.

It is also weird for me, because as you know, I often feature side-quests and downtime in my campaigns for players to embrace more campaign immersion, getting to know the local cultures, making friends, going to different restaurants, and often gaining access and experiencing things like coffee, cigars, and pipes, with different kinds of tobacco. It's all fun and cool. Truth be told, I've been including such elements in my campaign literally for *decades*. My players have never thought I was somehow being ridiculous or some weird feminized, metro-sexual Soy-boy. *Laughing*
