This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Just wait until we get to discuss the new DMG player safety stuff!!!

SnarkyJay is more a media review/pop culture channel, broadly anti-Establishment like Critical Drinker & Nerdrotic, she's been on those livestream things with them. As with Ginny Di, I think Cosplay is cool to look at but doesn't support a channel. I think that's 90% why Ginny Di went into RPG discussion, as a scaffold to show off her Cosplay. Her RPG advice type stuff varies from banal to terrible, but lots of people would rather see bad advice + good Cosplay, than good advice from your average basement dwelling Neckbeard type. :D

Edit: Worst of all of course would be to just point a camera at some RPG books and talk off-camera for 30 minutes... but what kind of a loon would do that?? :D

I agree.  Since I have her blocked I don't know if she is still popular or not or whether she is fading out.  I don't really hear much about her though I may just not go to the places she is talked about.

Professor DM seems to love her and talks about her so I have blocked him so I don't have to hear about her.  I mostly blocked him for his clickbait thumbnails and titles and he really doesn't give me anything I find useful.

He just posted a pretty good video on old school games where the players don't know the rules. Not clickbait content at all, though I guess the title was framed for max engagement. You may be a bit harsh on the blocking if that is your standard (waits to be blocked...) :D

Sorry S'mon, Ghostninja has blocked your posts.

Kidding.

Maybe I will go and check it out.  Thanks for letting me know.

She's a thirst trap.  A solid seven who cashes in on the stereotypical nerd who believes that the cam girl actually cares about him.  Those of us who are married with kids and actually know the game really aren't her demographic.  She's nearing the wall, anyway, and eventually her subs will outgrow her and her advice (and it really shouldn't take that long, based on her content).  I feel like there's a little "in-group" in the Youtube RPG space (her, Prof DM, DeRopp, Glicker, et al.) who all kind of promote each other in the hopes that a rising tide will raise all boats.  So there's no really surprise in Prof DM being friendly...

Sounds like my feelings about Matt Colville. He started out ok. But at some point all that went out the window and last few vids of his I glanced at he was spouting standard storygamer "advice".

Prof DM probably does too much WoTC clickbait, but his GM advice stuff is pretty solid old-school orientation. Colville is an odd one who does seem to have become worse over time. Early on in the 5e era Colville was a notable voice promoting a more old school approach in a wilderness of linear railroading.  Prof DM gives pretty consistently good advice I find, although his published works seem to be all 2e style railroads. I noticed that Colville is on the Left and Prof DM definitely isn't, by the standards of us academics he seems quite Right wing. He definitely likes his booby miniatures & art which makes him a kindred spirit, whereas Colville is a Male Feminist who hates on REH. That Prof DM's group is mostly female probably helps, it's my female players who demand more boobs on the campaign page. :D

So gang, how do you like the campaign so far? What would you like to see more of? Intrigue? Mystery? Combat?

To be fair, I do have one player whose reaction to meeting a bare breasted Amazon Warrior is to knit her a scarf to keep her warm. :D

In reference to several previous posts:

Calling Ginny D a solid 7, is being a little bit generous. Maybe a 6.375, but a 7?

Matt C was putting out some pretty good videos, years ago.  He championed fun, interesting gaming sessions.  But after a few years, I didn't enjoy the content as much.

Prof DM is much more entertaining, to me.  He is a fan of low level play, fewer hp, letting player characters pass away, etc.  He can tell good stories, with ease.

I'm not looking for RPG gurus.  I just like to watch videos, while I drink my coffee.  Prof DM, probably runs a great gaming session.

I totally agree.   It's like thinking that the stripper at the strip club really likes you.  Nope, she just wants your money.

I have tried a couple of times of listening to Matt Colville but his videos bored me to tears and I stopped listening and shut off the video.

Not sure why people hold his videos in such high regard.

Same. At most he is interesting when he is recounting sessions. But I was listening to one and it hit me what an obnoxious condescending railroad his adventures can be.

Yet people fawn all over him.
