This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The idea that #dnd is for "Everyone" is a lie. The truth is that actually, D&D is for ANYONE, and that's very different.

But yeah, interesting how this works. People are doing something, there are certain conceits you have to go along with if you want to do that, too. Instead these fucks infiltrate everything and destroy it from within by calling whatever they're doing "inclusive". Marxists are the worst...
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

They sure are. But regular gamers have been bad at falling for their semantic traps. My video is an attempt to show how we need to forcibly reject their semantics and replace them with our own.

I like this semantic difference. It's not much, but it's a useful distinction.

I like it too.  Short, succinct, and makes an important distinction.

It's a good response to have to a dishonest charge.  Because most of those charges are crafted to be short and fuzzy in such a way that they can't be answered briefly.  It's part of what makes them work.  This response isn't a full answer, but it is a lob back into the opponents court.  Very handy to see if they are one of the dishonest hacks or someone just confused.

RPGPundit

That's right. The point is also it disarms their argument. Because if "anyone" can play, it exposes the lie to the idea that "everyone" must be represented.

Man at Arms

Anyone can play.  It's a game.  Games have rules.  Someone must run / host the game.  They get to choose what kind of game, they want to run.  Play if you want to play, the game that's being run; but you don't get to take over the game with nonsense.  You may be asked to leave, if you try to take over.

This isn't gate keeping, it's just enforcement of the rules and gaming environment present at the table.

Anyone, not Everyone.

Like anime/manga, TTRPG's filter out/gatekeep themselves by their entertainment value alone. That and you don't have to play with someone if you don't want. That's why the whole 'Gatekeep the chuds' doesn't work. Even if they wreck every single TTRPG franchise in existence, people will just create their own to suit themselves.

One of the major lessons I drew from 1984 is that if you accept the bad guys' language, you also accept their way of thinking and their conclusions.  Reject the language.

I don't really care if some folks want to play games about their screwed up college lives, or being baristas in hip multicultural town. Like anything else, create a game that does the best job at that particular thing, and find like minded people to play with. What DO care about is the hijacking of established games that were never designed for such things and trying to transform them from whatever the game was designed to do into a pile of mediocre dog shit and insist that whatever game was hijacked, is supposed to be the crap that they are serving. Don't like what existing rpgs are all about? No problem, make your own and do your thing. The problem is that leftists are not happy unless they shit the bed that everyone shares. We have become too nice and civilized. I bet the tune would change after a good round of beatings.

Hate to say this, but I think that you are assuming that a woke griefer is rational enough to understand and acknowledge the distinction while they are getting off on their own self-righteousness.

It's like why people attend protests, they don't do it because a protest is effective - they attend to share in the emotional frenzy of the moment. When the woke are castigating people for wrongthink, they primarily do it for the emotional high and not from any logical frame of mind. So, countering their emotion with logic only serves to change the perceptions of the readers who are not involved directly in the back and forth between the woke and their target. That may be the end result you want. I don't know.

"Meh."

Oh yeah. The wokesters don't care. They want results and word games are how they attempt to get those results. They'll abandon or ignore word games when they're not useful to them.

But the average Joe or Jane gamer are the targets of those word games. And they can be persuaded by counter-word games.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.
