Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Good show.  Harmony seems like a pretty sensible chick.  But if she's going to be a YouTube/Twitter personality, she really needs to be known for something other than her association with the BrOSR boors.  She's been on other shows, such as Diversity & Dragons, and her ties to the BrOSR always seem to be the main thing that people talk about.  Its like an anchor around her neck at this point.  But if she develops her own persona, she could have potential as an interesting independent voice in the RPG scene.

RPGPundit

Well, that's why I think it was an awful decision on her part to exchange instant attention from the BroSR for being saddled with that toxic label from then on.

I have a question for anybody out there. About 15 minutes in you had a discussions of AD&D and Gary not playing it rules as written...   Gary wrote AD&D so that everyone would have the exact same rules when they played at conventions. Does anyone ever remember playing at a convention and using weapon speeds and other odd bits that are habitually dropped?

That's an interesting question. I couldn't say myself, because although I started playing in the AD&D1e era, by the time I went to my first convention the edition de jour was 2e.

i like OSR and basic and AD&D 1e,  am I a boor ?

PencilBoy99

She seems pretty convinced that real life 1:1 time is the documented design intent and was not swayed. I played when red box came out and I didn't know anyone who played that way, and don't remember reading any dragon articles exhorting me to play that way.

Ruprecht

First I heard of true 1:1 time was Shadowdark torches. Nobody played that way. Gygax was trying to balance multiple parties going into the same megadungeon, maybe he had them leave at the end of every session but I doubt it. I think he kept strict time records and knew that Party A went in on Monday and Party B went in on Thursday so they won't meet each other. Then fudged and handwaved whatever he needed to to make it all work.

1:1 time only makes sense if you run an open table multiple times per week with different players showing up at various sessions. For the same group playing weekly it doesn't make sense. Ok so everyone needs to get out of the dungeon at the end of every session. Then the group is forced to jerk off in town for a week whether they want to or not. Meanwhile, new inhabitants move into the parts of the dungeon that were cleaned out previously. Now the party goes back in on session 2 and cleans out the same parts of the dungeon they did last week....and are again forced into a week of downtime while the dungeon repopulates. Repeat, etc. How the hell is the party ever able to get to other parts of the dungeon?

Yes, if you run a campaign with a single party who behave in standard party fashion, the BroSR-style "1:1 REAL TIME" would be COMPLETELY POINTLESS

I like OSR and Basic and AD&D 1e also. Being a boor has nothing to do with the games someone likes. It has everything to do with actually being an obnoxious person.

I use 1:1 time. I don't have dungeons restock/repopulate like this, why would they? At most a particular organised lair within a dungeon may move forces around to cover losses. But new monsters only arrive from outside very occasionally.
