This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

GIMME SOME SUGAR

Hello!
The purpose of this post is to give each other tips on specific audio/OSTs/soundeffects/audio landscapes that can be used by GMs to enrich a gaming session. You can also give recommendations on how you go about using music in your games, what audio gear you are using, etc.

I will start with some Youtube videos that I have used recently in a fantasy setting:

The first three or so minutes of this:

This could easily be some weird cult summoning something from beyond the veil:

Well this is a concept I have quite the interest in and more then a few songs and music I can suggest.

If you don't mind using a some what recognizable piece the opening to trigun is pretty useful for theouse moments where you just need a rock song stand in say in a bar or what have you.

There are also tons and tons of pc88 and pc98 game osts that are potetualy very useful perticlarly for retro style sci fi and cyber punk settings.

Great topic!  For many years now, the only music I'll play at the table is ambient music.  Prog rock, heavy metal, and world music used to be in rotation, but was much too distracting; nowadays, if any of that gets played it'll be at the beginning or end of a session as a campaign's "theme song" or victory/funeral music.

I don't cue up specific songs to match locations/characters; it's one more thing to keep track of, better to just put something on and let it play.  Since most of my games involve exploration and mystery, I've found that dark ambient works very well as general background noise.  Here are links to a few of the most heavily-played albums at my table:

Some others I use less frequently but are quite nice:

Well i am back again with more a number of years ago there was a little jrpg made for the playstation one now that game on that system is kind of rare and has a fantastic sound track much of which is fantasic and of great use in a table top session.
I will highlight some specific songs but the ost is over 70 songs and it pretty veryed so go digging.

I should also point out that this game is sort of like a more obscure earth bound in a sense in that they are both infamously obscure in there respective circles and as such meany peaple who have heard of the game have never played or heard these songs.

Considering there was just some discussion of ere music I'd say this qualifys

Given some of the themes of the game there are a few more unsettling and ere songs that i can dig out.

While i havent pointed out any in this pass there are a great deal of rock and mettal esc songs in the game that are also worth a look and I do say that they can fit a fantasy champagne quite well.

Ive noted this before in similar threads.

You can pull the BGMs out of Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 as they are saved as WAV or BMU which players like VLC can play.
