This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

nope

Neat. Backed at $100, plus $30 for Adventures.

While I'm not backing this it is good to see that SJGames not only hit their pledge goal is getting higher and higher by the minute and with 34 days to go. So much for rpg.net and the SJW outrage brigade demanding a successful boycott towards SJGames.

They are complaining about how toxic the OSR is on Twitter and RPG.net because we aren't abandoning TFT. It's great. Sad that I don't think Phil Reed can post here anymore but I'm sure he will be back in a few months when the outrage mob has moved on.

I never really saw much SJGames stuff except for Car Wars and Munchkin.

Back in the 1980s, there used to be a grocery store that carried Microgames. It was in a rotating wire rack. Microgaming (which was TFT and other games), then later Cars Wars and even some of those White Star games (Star Smuggler was the one I owned)

It's hilarious to me that what were once $2 to $3 mini games are now $100+ deluxe games.

Well, I don't doubt that individually games like Melee and Wizard were priced that way, but I think it's reasonable for this kickstarter to be priced the way it is. Not only Melee and Wizard but edited/updated written material, adding new art, the fact that the box sets include dry-erase hexes, tokens, newly created dice, In the Labyrinth, Death Test, the Companion, etc. It's not exactly a micro game, even though it does contain several. But I think I get your point.

I don't see why he couldn't. What has he got to lose? He should respond to the people who actually want to buy his products.

To be fair, we also offer Melee and Wizard as two boxed games (and Death Test in a box). And if we look at the numbers and inflation adjustments we find:

Melee
* 1977 - $2.95 (equivalent to $12.36 today)
* 2019 - $14.95

Wizard
* 1978 - $3.95 (equivalent to $15.38 today)
* 2019 - $14.95

Death Test
* 1978 - $2.95 (equivalent to $11.48 today)
* 2019 - $19.95

Death Test 2
* 1980 - $2.95
* 2019 - NA - Included inside Death Test

It's my opinion that these three titles are just as inexpensive today as they were in the seventies (relative and all that).

Yeah, this is a common phenomenon with us older guys:  "Back in the day, X only cost....." which is pretty much the same, or even less, than today when adjusted for inflation.

I'm a guitar player and watch guys go on about how some guitar only cost them $400 in 1977 and now the equivalent costs $1500 and yammer about how much more things cost, but upon examination that $400 is more like $2500 today than $1500.  It's not just roleplayers at least! :)

I see it a lot with toy collectors. Trying to one-to-one compare prices of anything from 20, 30, 40+ years ago to today without adjusting for inflation always ends poorly.

If anyone is interested in the new expansion, we've now unlocked over a dozen stretch goals and keep packing stuff into the project.

Not to whine, but FWIW, Decks of Destiny is I think the first TFT product ever made that I don't feel any interest in getting. As an experienced TFT GM who prefers 1" hexes, and isn't really interested in card-generated adventures, and has the I Want It All box, I don't think I'd have much use for it. I guess if I had it, I might use the character cards as examples to show new/prospective players, and I'd probably try the card-generation of stuff to see how it works.

I think it's a brilliant next increment of all the stuff you (well, most players) actually use at the table: A big expansion of the megahex tiles you use to lay out labyrinths, another of the cool neoprene arena battle mats; a modular system for generating dungeons, pre-gen stats for dozens of foes, and a bunch more stuff. They can serve up one of these every season as far as I'm concerned.

That was my initial reaction too, but seeing some of the suggestions from others I'm warming up to the idea of the cards for quick random encounters, or generating short notice games. I realized this last could be a great boon for those times where you are missing players at short notice. A couple of the PCs (those whose players showed up) encounter something while gathering firewood or hunting dinner. For some reason drawing some event / encounter / treasure cards strikes me as more appealing than rolling on random charts.

Certainly not a must have, but I'll probably end up getting in on the $100 level. The mats and cardboard counters are of less interest to me since I have gobs of minis and several dry erase type battle mats.
