This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Colonial Gothic, ya'll played it?

I bought Shadow, Sword and Spell for pretty much the same reason - love the D12 and it doesn't get enough use. So... my own FrankenOSR system I'm going to inflict on my group is going to be D12 based instead of D20. I'm taking the LotFP skill system largely as is but moving from D6 to D12, I've modified a version of the D6 saves idea I found online to be D12 based, and am currently hacking around how to use a single D12 for combat in a way that means I don't have to do any conversion of OSR monsters on the fly. S, S & S was the inspiration, so AC will become redundant and target numbers in combat will be based on monster's HD, with armour now providing damage reduction. Needs a bit of tweaking but I'm excited to try it out sometime.
Here for gaming, not drama.

I'll wait and judge the work by its own merits.

Ahhh yess. The old "I dont care how many people the designer has attacked. I just want my bright shiny!" routine.

I never said I wanted it. I just said that whether or not I want it will be based upon my opinion of the quality of the product itself, not on my personal opinion of the author. Thank you though for trying to imply that my approach is unreasonable; it makes it clear to me what kind of poster you are. Don't worry though, I'll judge each of your posts on their own merits, not on the basis that I think the one posting them is an asshole.

That is correct. I don't keep track of whether the farmer whose potatoes I buy is an upstanding citizen either. Nor do I feel compelled to judge anyone "guilty" based on some stories on the internet which would require enormous amounts of time from me to verify. Before the internet become a big thing who knows what Tom Dowd (just the first name that comes to mind) did and who any of the designers back then attacked? Not me, I bought their products back then, not giving a single thought about this question. I see no reason to change this attitude in 2019. In fact, I see a lot of reason to insist on it.

Where I draw the line is when I have reason to suspect that the proceeds of my purchase are used to finance illegal activities (like, a drug smuggling ring, for example). Other than that, what these people do is none of my business.

Not only that, I have some serious questions about the intentions and the character of those people who DO play internet community police. I have a feeling that it is THEM who will come increasingly under fire from here on it - but maybe that's just me.

History shows that self-policing communities do not work - it lends itself too much to abuse... in extreme cases to witch hunts, inquisitorial trials and lynch mobs.

Fuck that shit.  I am not buying stuff from a known doxxer, sjw, and backstabber.  Too many negatives for me.

Alexander Kalinowski

Same thing, as long as I don't have verified it personally, which necessitates a certain amount of desire to spend the time and energy to verify it, I don't care.

I like Zweihander as a game. I like the idea of the Colonial Gothic setting. So paired with the system it likely looks good to me.

I won't dismiss Zweihander based on the creators reputation or side in the Game Wars. Just like I wouldn't dismiss TheRPGPundit, Venger Satanis or James Desborough. I'm really tired of having to draw lines because people are screaming at each other. It's reached a level of melodrama I can't abide any longer. Just buy/play the games you like. Chances are every creator is either a) an asshole or b) has been an asshole at one point anyways. Also, I'm not telling you to buy it or play it. Just saying why I would buy it and play it.

Tell me when was the last time you seen RPGPundit, James, and Venger dox anyone?  Seriously who can you even apply this argument?  Those three are upstanding pillars of the hobby in comparison to the creator of Zweihander.  How dare you drag these three down to the shit bin.

"How dare you....?"

Oh, please.  How Victorian. Please can someone carry Snowman to the fainting couch, get the smelling salts, and loosen his corset before he melts or something.

Then fucking point me to when RPGPundit dox someone.

Now I don't care if you want to purchase Colonial Gothic which I do find it annoying.  What I find insulting is what trechriron is doing which is making these three men look as bad as Daniel Fox which is sneaky of him.

trechriron

As I said. The melodrama is getting ridiculous. Obviously Daniel is overly sensitive. Even better none of the three gents I mentioned are super sensitive. I don't equate D's actions with the three amigos. I just know that I'm likely not see any temper-tantrums from them, so I can buy/pla Zweihander AND Alpha Blue AND Gor AND Arrows of Indra and enjoy them equally. Not going to join in on the personal shitting. If OBS gets censorship-stupid, I speak out (and have in the past). I address behaviors as much as I'm humanly able to. Just fatigued is all. I just want to play games and talk about them, ya know?
