This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It would have to be a generic rpg to cover many genres.

The Big Gold Book for BRP would be it for me.  Covers pretty much everything.

What's the point of a book, if I don't have anyone to run games with?

Quote from: Ninneveh;1073047In all seriousness, Rifts. But I'm crazy like that.
I loved reading my Rifts book growing up, but we never ended up playing. Made a few characters though. Always seemed like it had so much potential!

In my case, I just need a iPad with an unlimited power source and a word processor program, I can write stories and stuff till the end of time.  The only reason I'd want a game book is having people to play with.

If it was just one book then it would be the Pathfinder Core Rulebook.

The size of that thing is probably why I ended up on the Desert Island in the first place.

Author of the Knights of the Black Lily RPG, a game of sexy black fantasy.
Setting: Ilethra, a fantasy continent ruled over by exclusively spiteful and bored gods who play with mortals for their sport.
System: Faithful fantasy genre simulation. Bell-curved d100 as a core mechanic. Action economy based on interruptability. Cinematic attack sequences in melee. Fortune Points tied to scenario endgame stakes. Challenge-driven Game Design.
The dark gods await.

Probably the OSRIC hardback.

Although Chaosium's BRP Gold Book and the 2e AS&SH hardcover are both strong contenders.
The problem is not that power corrupts, but that the corruptible are irresistibly drawn to the pursuit of power. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

Quote from: 3rik;1072030Probably BRP would be the best choice for that as it can be used to run different genres and settings.

Fantastic Heroes & Witchery also seems like a good option.

No RPG whatsoever. I want blank books instead. I'll write my own RPGs from memory. No way I could get by playing only one RPG and I've yet to find a generic point buy system that makes me happy (Savage Worlds came the closest).
