This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So many great D&D Books, across several different editions; but trying to use it all?

I covered a 9 foot pool table with RPG books, and thought; "I wish I could make all of this mix and match more easily."

The simplicity of White Box, the magnum opus of the 1E DMG, the presentation of the 2E PHB, the cool spin of the 3E PHB, the supplemental material of the 3E Manual of the Planes, the additional spells of the 3.5 Spell Compendium, the Shadowfell and Feywild of the 4E Manual of the Planes, the jam up 5E PHB, the much appreciated Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and the plethora of content in the Pathfinder Bestiaries, all at the same gaming table!!!

BWAH!!!

If I can do it so can you!

Ok... You may not be as awesome as I and so you might not be able to. But try anyhow!

heh-heh.

Sure its doable. My current campaign used 5e but mixes in BX's known world setting, a bit of Oriental adventures, Some AD&D DMG for the random gen tables, Spelljammer from 2e, and some stuff from Masque of the Red Death, and even some stuff from 2e Gamma World.

If your players are old enough to appreciate 1E, they ought to perk up when they notice you breaking out the 1E DMG.  "Aw man, anything could happen now!!!"

You must appease my need to be affirmed!!!

Do it now, or I'm telling!!!

I started a 1st edition game using the newly released Advanced Labyrinth Lord and ascending AC. You can do whatever the fuck you want.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Hey, our amps go to 11; and that is one more than 10!!!

Yes, I like Ascending AC.  Descending AC isn't nearly as cool.

Actually, my amp goes to 12!!!

I ran I1 Dwellers of the forbidden city (1st ed AD&D) using 5th ed rules and had a blast. Just dug out my white dwarfs to see what I can use next - Irilian maybe?

See, now that sort of shit is what it's all about - mash whatever you like together into an orgasm of WTFery and dudes with four arms wailing on double guitars and pure kickass.

MAKE IT WORK, people!

The beauty of having so many books in your library is you're more free to run a sandbox campaign. Your players decide to go planes hopping? You have a book for that. Your players decide to raid a wizards tower? You have a book for that. Your players want to take over the rulership of a kingdom? You have a book for that. It's OK if you don't use it all - it's there as a resource to use on an as-needed basis depending on what your players decide to do.

Yes, that's the end goal.  I'm totally open minded about doing it.....using all of it.  But the crunchy stuff doesn't match up between editions; so that stuff has to fall to the cutting room floor.

I validate you. :) (I also mix & match books, but mostly it is 2e-focused material carried over.)
Just make your fuckin\' guy and roll the dice, you pricks. Focus on what\'s interesting, not what gives you the biggest randomly generated virtual penis.  -- J Arcane

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Thanks.  Your encouragement has inspired me to devote the rest of my life to protesting the consumption of ketchup.  Those poor tomatoes need an advocate.  They have feelings too, and their voices must be heard!!!
