This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: chirine ba kal;1040153I don't know; context?

It came up when I tried to find out about the two people banned from the local sci/fi or fantasy fiction convention. Not so much about them, but about the whole kerfluffle. I think it was on Will's blog when commenting on what had happened.

The 1976 World SF Convention featured skinny dipping in the pool.  A woman entered the masquerade as Dejah Thoris, wearing leather straps and a little drape the size of a washcloth, and nothing else.

The 1970s saw the sexual/feminist revolution expand "Wives like to fuck too" to "nice girls like to fuck too."  Approximately 25% of the incoming freshman women at the U of Minnesota got a prescription for birth control pills within the first two weeks of fall semester.

Eldritch Wizardry has a naked woman tied to an altar on the cover.

What's funny in kind of a sad bitter way is that the bloke Chirine talks about who threatened to have him banned from the FLGS if he brought in nude figures... has, or at least had, according to a reliable witness, a rather extensive collection of porn videos.

As for the woman who complained about Claudette Colbert, some years ago she went off on the movie "Splash" for much the same reason.  Despite the fact that the mermaid has magical powers and can do stuff humans can't.

Were I a cad, I would suggest maybe she has an issue with women who are more powerful than her and prettier than her.

My first thought was Amerikan Taliban - ie. My beliefs are better than yours and so you better conform to them or else - with a strong element of so-called "christian" righteousness (maybe that should be all caps?) to back them up.

Quote from: chirine ba kal;1040154Thank you for the kind words. As near as I can tell, the person giving me the razzing assumed that the costume was topless, which it ain't; her husband tried to point this out to her, and she blew him off. She that announced that the woman in the picture had probably been paid less then any men were, and the poor guy tried to explain that this is ms. Claudette Colbert, who was the 1930's version of Catherine Zeta-Jones, and most likely was getting as much money as all the male actors in the movie put together. She blew him off on that, too, and the conversation went downhill from there .

I believe "shrew" or, perhaps, "harridan" are apt descriptions for this creature. What a fucking ignoramus!! I personally have little use for people like this and avoid them like the plague. May God bless her husband, as he surely needs any help he can get.

I think I'd prefer the Ssu.  At least if I kill them nobody complains.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

That's because none of these illustrious characters has realized that the Ssu are the natives. By killing them, you're promoting a colonial approach to the world  (of Tekumel):D!

That should go at least as well as freeing the slaves did.
Assuming that was brought In Game by the enlightened players.

Would be sorta fun to watch that "train wreck" but wouldn't want to actually play in it.

Understood. The Missus had some thoughts on the incident as well, and we're going to move on with our lives. There will be effects and reverberations, but so it goes.

Right, gotcha. It's a handy catch-all phrase to use to get rid of people that one does not agree with, I'm told by locals in the know about this affair. There's also a heavy dose of personal dislike involved in the convention committee, and these days it seems that all one has to do is make some sort of vague statement that 'They make me feel uncomfortable" to get the person(s) one dislikes to get them banned. Which obscures the real issues in fandom, which I've had all too many incidents of.

Understood. I personally think that she's in the wrong group of people, as they all hold very different views then she does. My Missus commented that it does explain why they all seem to be walking on eggshells all the time.

Onward, I think.

It's kinda funny, and kinda sad; colonial-era wargaming used to be very popular, and very well represented in the genre, but it's now become 'politically incorrect'. It's like the three regiments of Zulus that I was looking at, and put back on the shelf; 'cultural appropriation', don't you know.

Ferenara. And that's all I'll say about that fiasco.

My first thought was how much ignorance was on display, and how little interest in any substantial dialog and communication was being evidenced.

Sigh. That group was fun, while it lasted.

There; I think I'm all caught up. Sorry about the delay; I was out very late, last night, as I got invited to Bob Meyer's annual Blackmoor game; he inherited Dave's original campaign when Dave passed away, and he runs a game for some of the original players once and a while. Some of them told me that they're coming to my Free RPG Day game, next month, so things should be fun.
