This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm hoping so. Sunday was the first time in a long time that I've had fun in gaming, and I'm trying to keep it that way.

Quote from: CRKrueger;1031393Hey Chirine, just an idea:
Don't keep all the digital copies in one place like that, especially after you've shown everybody what they look like.

I don't. There are three other copies of the digital archives, none of which are located in the Twin Cities. We took precautions.

H;0)

Like the house's alarm system and video cameras? Or the double-face deadbolt locks on the doors? Or that after I took the photo the two sets of digital media went back into their secure storage? Gosh, I must have forgotten.

'Loss Prevention' is a very real issue, here; we've had some very 'sticky-fingered' 'fans' come through on visits. Which is why we're very careful about allowing anyone into the house, any more. There have been, shall we say, 'issues'.

Quote from: chirine ba kal;1031296So, bottom line: Love the group, had a great time in the game, dislike both the rules and the adventure book. I did get to show off some miniatures, though! :)

Werl, as Kyle Aaron says, "People first, snacks second, setting third, venue fourth, rules last."  I'm now playing in a group playing Pathfinder adventure paths, and I am no more fond of the rules or the adventure paths than you are.  But it's an opportunity to spend time with people and get a few laughs.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

There are also online storage methods available, some of which are free or of little cost.  The advantage is that they become a perpetual archive since the host does their own backups, the disadvantage is that they are subject to somebody hacking into them.  But since the actual value of the Tekumel IP is about $3.98, I don't think security is a big deal.

I use such a service for my home PC for just home PC stuff, just because with my luck my tax records will crash on April 14.

I was kind of hoping for various 'devices of the ancients' including flamethrowers...  I suppose those would be tough on the rest of your home.

Damn Insurance Clans, sometimes I think their policies are written in the Double Secret Tongue of the Temple of Ksarul.

Maybe no flamethrowers but don't forget that Chirine has homemade Eyes. He's posted the pictures. You break in, ZAP, you're Excellent Ruby Eye-d into a statue and then he dumps you into one of Minnesota's many convenient lakes.

You're totally wrong, I'm afraid:).
He'd just need to use another Eye, the one of Reducing the Size, and then he can put you at display with the rest of his miniatures. Have you noticed how life-like some of those are;)?

(For those that might believe in such conspiracy theories, this post simply contains traces of humor).

I thought so; I got a person interested in RPGs and miniatures as well, so I'm happy.

Like the set on Google Cloud storage? As I said, we took precautions.

And here's a cautionary tale for you, my General. A while back, when Dave Sutherland was selling his collection of Tekumel artwork - Paul did it, I think - I put in a bid that I thought was fair and would help an old friend. Word got out that I was doing this, and panic erupted amongst the TRUE Tekumel Fans and the Serious Collectors. Bidding went to over $3,000 dollars, which was nice for Dave, but out of my range. What made the whole affair really delicious was that the Serious Collector who beat the TrueFans bid had no idea what he had bought, and had to call me in to identify each of the items he's won. So, I got a complete copy of all the artwork, papers, and notes for free.

Saved me a heap of money, it did.

Security is a big deal. The morning that Phil passed away, a stack of CDs vanished from his computer table; if I may be crude, he wasn't even cold yet. I had to post a guard over him so that his widow could have his wedding ring while we made all the phone calls. I used to have A Loyal Tekumel Fan who would help me put my figures away after convention games; more then a few wound up in his pockets, I discovered, after he posted photos of them on the Internet to brag about his Tekumel collection.

I haven't started doing cavity searches of visitors, yet, 'cause I watch their hands while they are here. Plenty of latex and non-latex gloves in stock, though.

Nope. Both CO2 and Dry Powder extinguishers to hand.

I save the charges and use concrete blocks. More traditional, too.

It's not an Eye, actually, it's a different device of the Ancients. Darn useful, too.
