This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone doing anything with D6?

Every now and then I "dust off" the D6 PDFs and house rules on my hard drive, and think about running a D6 game. Usuaally about two days later I'm reminded what a mess the rules are. Anyone doing anything with it?

I have all the PDFs of them. I look at them once in awhile when someone asks me a question about the mechanics. I'm looking at it again just now. Exploding dice... fate points... meh. Let me close this file.

I haven't run d6 since the 1980s, but I keep hankering to use Mini-6 which looks fantastic; and I bought James Desborough's d6-rules Gor RPG a few days ago (for the articles, of course!) :D One idea I had was to use Mini-6 rather than Savage Worlds for the Slipstream pulp-SF setting.
What are the main issues with d6 I should be aware of if I actually run a d6 game?

The die mechanic slows down or halts role-play while players make their rolls. But that's how most RPG rules were done in the '80s, which later games just kept using.

If you stick with Mini-6, you'll be fine. It solves many of the problems with Open D6 (D6 Space, D6 Fantasy, D6 Adventure). Mini-6 is rules-lite, which could be good or bad depending on your preferences.

If you're curious about Open D6, you can find the PDF's online, free and legal: https://ogc.rpglibrary.org/index.php?title=OpenD6

Thanks - I did pick up d6 Space/Fantasy/Adventure while they were £0 on rpgnow, I noticed they looked a bit fiddly.

Nothing much though I did get the WEG Star Wars rpg recently as I was thinking of possibly running it. As I'm not that big a fan of FFG version. And no that's not a excuse on anyone part to edition war so don't. I do see why the system while very easy to teach suffers from having to roll too many dice. Roll to see if one hits hit. Roll the Cruiser hull value. Roll to see if the damage is greater or higher. If WEG never lost the license they could and should have tuned up the D6 system. It's great but many does it have a few flaws.

I backed the MYTHIC D6 kickstarter. I have the document, and it looks sweet, but I would rather have the hardcopy before I start gaming with it. It gets rid of the "waiting for people to add up d6's" problem some people seem to have...

How so?

I never found any issues with adding the pips on a few six-siders, but I can see where too many dice would turn into a pain in the neck with everyone stopping to count, but that is an issue I only ever encountered with Champions when some PCs would get 8, 9, 10d6 abilities. Generally with Star Wars we never got much higher than 7d6 as our games didn't last that long. Same with Ghostbusters. Is the "exploding d6" from the 2nd edition of Star Wars? I don't recall that in the original.

I like the system for the most part. Fast 'n' easy.

Pray tell:

(1) what is "Mythic d6"? (I'm imagining Perseus vs. Medusa, Jason and the Argonauts, etc.)
(2) what is their solution to counting the pips? Seems rather unavoidable if it's still recognizably the same system. Did they go the Hercules & Xena RPG route of successes and failures instead of counting pips?
