This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I always wanted to play a campaign using some sort of mer-people as PCs... a whole weird new setting that is wholly underwater. I know Mermaid Adventures does that... but there must be others.

Check out PC3 The Sea People for BECMI/Mentzer D&D. Its all about adding aquatic races and undersea adventuring.

That could be hilarious in a Gonzo game, especially if it was a Giant Crab, and the whole thing was some kind of a setup.

You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

Hmmm... that brings to mind that old thing about fish living in their own toilets... but also an idea for underwater alchemy that involves diffusing substances into the water, and means to filter/block such things... and now I'm on to thinking about censer bearing alchemists in land-lubber games... but yeah, I don't wanna sleep next to no horny mermen.

Also, sponge armor.

While not singing. In BX or BECMI I believe theres a monster or Dungeon module dealing with a giant hermit crab that comes across as friendly and offers people shelter in its shell. You can likely guess where this is going.

RPGPundit

Stoner mermen could be appealing.

Y'know, I've been working on just this thing for a while because my Birthright game is in Brecht lands and that's all about Hanseatic League traders, D&D. Throw in aquatic races and a faerie-empowered continent, and there should be oodles to explore. That and it's one of the few times I love the idea of exploring grid combat -- because a 3D battlefield with differing swim rates throws a fat monkey wrench into our learned land tactics.

In fact, I have someone roll up a paladin 3d6 straight down the hard way (CHA 17 at the end is the hardest). And since the most likely paladin for the Brechtian region is one attached to the NG avatar of Sea and Sorrowful Grief, I counted all the other discarded characters as part of the PC's backstory. Thus came the lone survivor of a sunken vessel, touched by the avatar to survive and be Her champion, while 47 traveling souls perished. And in this PC their unrested souls communicate until she brings succor to their loved ones.

Very tragic, very setting apropos, and a fun use for all those discarded stat lines. :)

Now I just need to actually run the fucking game. :p

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.
