This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPundit;1007302So what makes it different from any other similar games? Aside from having an app, I mean?

What makes it different is it combines similar techniques to other Rules Light games (such as Rifts, Fate, or Risus The Anything RPG) with the use of Archetypes and Imagination vs Class Structure. But what makes it different from those listed is that it also combines in the standard d20 structure for those that like rolling d20's rather than d6's or d10's. The light structure and the Archetypes combined also means that you can use this for any setting easier.   Another thing to note is that it is versatile as well. At it's bare bones level, there are no extra modifiers or maths to really have to calculate, but if an experienced GM wants to add those things in, they have the easy freedom to do so. It's original intent is to really introduce tabletop games to players that might not be comfortable picking up a large rulebook.

Character Example: If you are playing a High Fantasy style game, a player might say "I want to be a Cunning Rogue". The GM and player can assume the Rogue will be Proficient in Dexterity and Charisma so the player would mark down these traits with Proficiency. For balance, the GME would ask the player to choose another trait to have a Deficiency in, such as one of the following: Intelligence/Wisdom/Strength/Constitution. Whenever one of these traits come up in game, if the player has Proficiency with the skill, they roll two d20 and take the higher number as you have an Advantage for this. Alternatively, Deficiency causes the opposite with rolling two d20's and taking the lowest. Anything that doesn't have a proficiency/deficiency in it would just be a straight d20 roll. Now lets say your player says "Oh you know what, instead of high fantasy let's play a Star Wars game and I want to be a Dashing Smuggler like Han Solo". The same would apply in that case as you would easily be re-skinning things to fit your theme or setting.

As for special skills, this opens a bit of mechanical freedoms or imagination to both the player and the GM. Some GM's might not like to have so much freedom or looseness, but they can easily pull in other resources to assist in this such as some of the standard feats or special mechanics from things like D&D5e or Pathfinder.

Example, maybe you give your Rogue/Smuggler the Cunning Action mechanic from D&D. Now in combat they can take a Bonus Action on each of their turns in Combat to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action.

Hopefully that answers your questions. The mobile app has all the rules outlined and a Quick Reference PDF for ease of reference for both the players and the GM.

Well, it doesn't sound like it's really up my alley, but it did satisfy my curiosity as to whether you were here to interact with people and answer questions (good!) and not just a spammer (bad!). Thank you, and carry on.

Post a sample character.

Post a sample combat.

And what are you going to do with your system?

Of course! :-)

Covered these topics in the Rules, so I posted the examples from there.  As for what I am going to do with the system, I am hoping to run some recorded One Shots so that people can see how it works and I may also start developing some Extra Advanced Rule Variants eventually.

Character Example
Sean "From the land of Connery"
Human Barbarian *Barbarians are good at fighting but might be lacking in intelligence. So from this, the Game Master could grant the player's character Proficiency in the Strength Trait and Deficiency in the Intelligence Trait.
  • +Strength = "+" Proficient
  • Dexterity = Normal
  • Constitution = Normal
  • - Intelligence = "-" Deficient
  • Wisdom = Normal
  • Charisma =Normal
  • Armor Class = Dex is Normal = 12 AC
  • Hit Points = Con is Normal = 4 HP
  • Weapons = Great Sword (Melee and Proficient)

Play will go as in any standard Tabletop Roleplaying Game. The Game Master sets the scene and interacts with players as appropriately in social encounters. Players take turns explaining to the Game Master what they are doing or trying to do in situations. If the Game Master determines the need to check if a player's action is successful or a failure, he/she then asks the player to roll for the appropriate Skill Trait for the action.
The Game Master then calculates an appropriate Difficulty Class or DC for the player to roll exactly or higher to be a success.

Example: Sean "the Barbarian" above wants to try to intimidate a foe using his words and stature as a barbarian. The Game Master determines that the weak barkeep could be easily intimidated with a roll of 8 or above. Sean has Normal proficiency in Charisma (which is where the Intimidate Skill falls under) so he would roll the d20 only once and take the value. Sean rolls a 10 which is higher than the DC of 8, thus he succeeds. The Game Master then narrates that the barkeep is shaking in his boots and that Sean has successfully intimidated him into giving him the ale he ordered for a discounted price.

These same rules WILL be followed for players to roll to succeed on anything from Attacks, Ability checks, Casting Spells, Using Special Abilities, Contested Checks, Combat Turn Order, and Saving Throws.

Combat: Before combat even begins, the GM will determine the order in which players and non-player characters/monsters will act. This is usually called an Initiative roll. This can be determined by having all the players roll their Dexterity Trait and starting from highest to lowest. The GM will do the same for each of the NPCs or monsters. During Combat, a character will be able to make ONE Move Action (30 feet on average) ONE Primary Action, and One Bonus Action

Example: Sean "The Barbarian" is facing two goblins who are about 30 feet away. Sean is Proficient with his Strength trait and would like to swing his Great Sword at one of them. On his turn, Sean will be able to use 1 Move Action to move the 30 feet to engage with one of the goblins. He will then be able to use his 1 Primary Action to Melee Attack with his Great Sword causing him to roll the d20 twice and take the higher total (due to being Proficient in Strength).

The GM will already have determined the Armor Class of the goblin and see if Sean hits on his attack. We will say that he successfully hits with an 18 and the GM determines that it kills the goblin.
At this point, Sean uses his Bonus Action to try and intimidate the rest of the Goblins by a creative way.

Sean The Barbarian runs up in between the two goblins who hunkered down in preparation for the huge man's attack. Sean swings his Great Sword at the head of the goblin to his left and takes its head clean off. As the blood pours from the fallen goblin, Sean lets out a horrifying roar and looks toward the remaining goblin.

Did someone just say Rifts was rule-light? :D
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Yeah, now that I think about it, not sure why I was using RIFTS as an example.  Lol. Maybe I was thinking Savage Worlds, but even that isn't exactly Rules Light.

Well, it's a bit more rules-light than RIFTS. But not by much.
