This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

GODFUCK MY EYES! The color correction, I don't remember if it was this bad in season 1, but everything in season 2 is high contrast orange and teal. I mean, everyone looks radioactive or ice blue. Stahp it!

Rough start, catching us up with the characters felt rushed and jumbled. About halfway through the episode, they slowed down and it got much better.

Looking forward to the rest of the season, even though it looks like Michael Bay puked all over the screen.

Had to look this up...a TV show...haven't seen it. Set in the 1980s?

Voros

Rushed? I feel it is too slow. Why do we need to see how Hawkins and Eleven met through endless flashbacks, who gives a fuck? It has taken til the third episode for an actual plot point to arrive.

Yeah. It's an homage, some have even fondly called it a rip off of 80's movies and TV. Lots of references to popular movies like ET, Jaws, etc.
It's gotten a lot of good word of mouth because it's pretty good and not just relying on the nostalgia.

I've only seen episode 1. We're pacing them out. I'll keep an eye on the pacing.

Unfortunately I have time for maybe an hour of TV any given week, plus i don't get Netflix, so I'll probably never see it.

Why is Winona Ryder in every thread now? Is it my fault for bringing up Alien Resurrection the other day?

I am enjoying it and I don't mind slower series that have episodes that establish character or even mood rather than plot but I found the first few episodes draggy.

BTW note that one of the later episodes is called Mind Flayer.

I just started watching the second season. Two episodes in. I do have to admit I found them a bit on the dull side compared with last season. Maybe they are doing something different though and this will take more time to crank up (and things to pick up a little in the latest episode). End of episode 2 I am hopeful for an upturn.

Odd question, but in the first season they used the term 'stalker' in the sense we use it today (someone who is obsessively following or harassing someone). And that struck me as anachronistic because I don't remember encountering that usage until at least the 90s. This season they've used the word many more times. So I am wondering is it in fact anachronistic, and are the show runners doubling down on the anachronism consciously? Doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the show but been curious if my memory matches the history of usage (I know stalker was a word before the 90s, I just don't remember anyone using it in that way prior).

Dumarest

I don't recall hearing " stalker" used in the current sense back then, but could be wrong. I doubt G.I. Joe would've named its ranger Stalker if it had had that connotation at the time. Seems like it was used more in the sense of hunter, as in Kolchak. Maybe somebody can research it and let us know.

I'm on episode 3 now, and I think I know where the season is going.

Spoiler
Dart is Barb reincarnated, and will eventually metamorph into her human form. So she'll be "resurrected". The big smoke monster will posess Will, and it will turn out that the Upside Down isn't sinister, so much as just bleeding into our reality. Whatever entity possesses will, will be trying to convince them to help stop the scientist guys.

I'm still holding onto my theory that the entire Upside Down is the subconscious projection of 11's psyche via her powers, making the Upside Down entities creations of her own mind.

Finished last night. Since I was recovering from a foot procedure yesterday,  I binged the rest of the episodes.  I enjoyed the season overall I feel like it would be too easy to spoil plot for people who haven't started or finished yet so putting them all in the spoiler tag.

Spoiler
I liked the whole Aliens approach, where we get an epic number of Demagordogs (not so keen on the name but I think that's what they called them). That built to a really great finale. Loved the Sean Austin Character, Bob. Liked Max. Her brother worked for me as a secondary threat, but I was hoping for a more supernatural explanation for him and Max's situation than the American Beauty one we got. I didn't quite get the punk excursion. There were some cool things there and a lot of it reminded me of Return of the Living Dead, but it felt weird having Eleven go to the big city while everything else was happening in Hawkins. I feel like they should have either fully committed to a city backdrop or just brought those characters to the small town. It created a weird tone shift. I also wasn't hugely impressed with the Kali character. It was just too on the nose (actress was fine, just the way it was written felt a little heavy handed). I do think introducing her, and reminding viewers that 11 is the 11th in an ongoing project, expanded the world a bit which I could see working well in future seasons. This season definitely didn't surprise me like the first, but that is a pretty high bar, since I just wasn't expecting Stranger Things at all the first time around. Glad they kept Barb out of it. Don't think I needed them to deal with the parents grief or have Nancy deal with it in the way she did. Nancy and Michael's father and mother had less of a presence in this one, but they both had some great moments. Liked the Paul Reiser character as well.

There were points in this one where things dragged. But once it got going, I had trouble  not binging the rest of the episodes (I watched 7 episodes in a row yesterday). Given that was my reaction, I'd say it was a good season. I'm kind of curious where they will go from here.

Voros

Overall I found it got much better in the second half with a much stronger emphasis on horror than the first season. Agree about the detour but I guess they wanted to set things up for the third season.

Ratman_tf

Well, it looks like my suspicion about Dart was way off. :o

Well there were definitely hints that the Mindflayer and Eleven's issues were connected (the continuing talk about how her rage was festering, etc) but I think it was more on a metaphorical level. I also thought they might resurrect Barb since she became such an unexpected fan favourite (and I also thought her death premature) but I'm glad they didn't feel the need to pander to the fanbase that much.

Oh and there's this inspired Peanuts meets Stranger Things mash-up.
