I don't know about these guys, but I quoted Tristram Evans the other day and until I dropped the quote part, I couldn't post. Got a red message telling me I couldn't use the Nonstandard Characters " '''' " which... wasn't in anything I wrote or quoted. Four apostrophes in a mass.  It... might have said something about european characters, but I can't recall for or against, much less the exact statement.

The system is finding non-ascii characters, typically copied from MS WORD. It's meant to stop all those chinese spammers we had. I'll try to work up a filter to fix special english characters, but no promises. Until then, you'll need to weed out weird characters in posts on your own.

I'v found now when I get that message I cut the text, paste it into the browser address window, then re-copy it and paste it back into the message and it lets me post.
