Title: Whats an Active Member?
Post by: Lawbag on April 10, 2006, 05:53:01 PM
Whats the difference between a member and an active member?

At the bottom of the front forum page there are 2 numbers.

Just curious...

BTW when are you having a "whip-round"? You know, to buy a new server or something? Or those lovely green advert links? Coz I kinda miss em already.

I think this came up before (or possibly on one of the other NTL inheritors). IIRC, an inactive member is one who hasn't activated his account. You know, when you register you get an email that says something like "please click this link to activate your account." They haven't done that.

An inactive member is one who hasn't logged in for 30 days.  I am considering making user names here expire after a set period of non-use, but hadn't put any real thought behind it or ran it past the Nutkins.

I think it would give a clearer view of the number of active members. There are a lot of nil posters who lurk which is just as important as the posters.

There is another RPG forum which boasts a high number of Members, but they do not use this feature to identify the number of active members they actually have.

Worth looking into...

As long as they are logged in they show as active - they don't have to post. For example Turlough - world's best lurker - is on the active list since he was online yesterday morning according to the system.

turlough is an NKL trademark.  he may not post much, but at least he's loyal!  ;)

Throwing out my two coppers, I'd say six months or a year.  Even Ruin Explorer doesn't disappear for longer than that.
